1) Message boards : Number crunching : Total Credit (Message 53859)

Post:
I assume that the credit fix failed?

They (project technicians) still can do this manually. Only 150 K of participants with credits... :-)

...Credit for tasks to me is an added bonus, my purpose to help save the Earth from its self by volunteering computer time to this project amongst others...

RESPECT!

I said earlier...

Les!
I know, I remember...
1. I understand and I accept project requirements.
2. I do not accept blind crunching by such enormous requirements.
P.S. I hope, my point of view is now understandable (sorry for my poor English).

Ok, credits maybe will be adjusted, but what about another details.
These WAH2 are true monsters - approx. 3 GB of disk space to process, approx. 1 GB to upload (uploads are hitting me very hard, because I access Internet using GSM connection with 10 GB/month limit)... And what we get from the project? No graphics, no simulation or modelling graphs on the task's page... Absolutely nothing, almost frozen progress bar only.

Mine have not. They still have a wrong estimate...

Is this wrong estimate affecting the processing in some way? IMHO, no...

IMHO, different sec/TS value for different types of CPDN models is absolutely normal situation.
IMHO again, better indicator of "speed" is useful job (measured in credits) pro sec.
For example, on my PC ANZ tasks are/were 4 times faster as Wah2:
ANZ - 52 K sec between trickles, 500 credits:
Wah2 - 81 K sec, 200 credits.
Hypothesis (based on intuition only)... :-)
Wah2 algorithm is "green" or not optimized enough. Instead of "open the door, enter the house" algorithm does "at first walk 3 times around the house, then open the door..." Maybe these "walking around" operations were useful for debugging, but are useless now, code writers just forgot to remove them.

I'm not part of the project, just another cruncher, with a few privileges...
Perhaps it will change again in the future, and perhaps not.

Les, I know You, I remember You... :-)
IMHO, it is worth to talk about to be or not to be (for graphics or some another type of "keep us informed") in a separate discussion.

On my PC with i7 and 64 bit Windows 7 task is going on, but very slow and continues to slow down.
This my point of view is based on hypothesis FLOPS and credits relation is correct.
So, on my machine:
HadCM3 short - all were done in average 85K sec, 600 credits for job done;
Wah2 - 3 checkpoints reached in 252K sec, 600 credits too.
It looks like the modell is going on, but with brakes, which are pressed more and more: the "speed" for 1st checkpoint was 6.8 sec/TimeStep, for 3rd - 7.2 sec/TS. So, looking forward...

Graphics are a thing of the past...

Dear Less, You must remember... One type of CPDN tasks (or models) had "cold world" bug, another type - negative preasure bug. We, participants, were able to found and report such abnormal or impossible situations in models by single click of "Show Graphics". I do not know, how much usefull were our reports for the fixing of those bugs, but I personally avoided CPU time waste for many times, because I was able to detect - this task is now hopeless, I can abort it etc.
So, I do not accept blind crunching here, in this project. Are You sure, the project went to the correct way?

WAH 2: very slow, no graphics (for curious or inquisitive people) and enormous uploads... Got 7 of them and do not want more...
11) Message boards : Number crunching : No trickles on webpage (Message 51571)

Also, credits for completed tasks are granted according to trickles seen on tasks pages (according to trickles from March 4 and earlier only).
An example is here.

You can take a look to my signature for evidence... ;-)
As I understand, credit export was done.
The result of this export for boincstats.com, for example, is (or may be) total chaos in the section "BOINC combined credits".
Just take a look for fun...

I am realy tired from this project. Instead of solving old and known problems, it looks like, project admins are creating new and new. I say, "it looks like" - this is my simple discourage, sorry...
Right now I am retargeting to another CPU project until the new and stable future will come to CPDN :( ...

Hello, dear admins or project chiefs!
What, to hell, are you doing?
Do not drink so much strong drinks! :-)
Do not smoke so much "grass"! :-)
17) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit updates? (Message 49180)

...Hang in there...

What do You mean? Suicide? :-)
Yes, CPDN credit problem went too far. Credits are not updated, approx. one half of external statistic sites are damaged or disturbed by CPDN.

Credits are calculated, but only once.
So, it looks like - the very old bug, when credits are calculated only sporadic, still exists.
