2 models have reached 93,75% (last upload of zip-file) and 2 models have reached 25%, both 160 year-models. One of the models crashed when uploading the last zip-file. I\'m not sure wether it is uploaded or not.
It crashed now after running 2 hours, the same point it crashed last time yesterday. I have an older backup too, so maybe I should try that one, but I want someone to tell me if it is exitcode 22 or the model that failed. When I have reached 93% I\'m sorry to see it go...
Thank you

Steinar

I had an Athlon 64X2 4200 (2,2 GHz) and 2 X 0,5 GB 667 MHz ram.
That machine used 2,25 and 2,29 s/Ts on hadcm-models.
23) Questions and Answers : Windows : Model or hardware failure? (Message 33203)

Post:
Has anyone ever tried taking a backup of a model with this sort of error, which means that a condition impossible in the real world has been generated, and transferring it from Intel to AMD or vice-versa?

We\'ve always assumed that these neg pressure or neg theta errors meant that the initial model parameter values were a combination that was tragically doomed to fail. But I wonder whether a computation error might produce the same result.

Sometimes you can restore a model with a computation error and the same error reoccurs at the same point. But in the case of loopers, a transfer to the other sort of computer has sometimes got models through the loop because of the different ways that Intels and AMDs handle the computations.

Steinar, I see that the model crashed on your Intel, but you previously crunched CPDN models with an AMD....... If the AMD is still functional you might want to try this to see if a transfer works with this model. Of course you could only try this if you haven\'t yet deleted the backup.

You may want to wait to see whether other people think this idea is worth trying.

I dont have the AMD anymore, sry. if I had it would be interesting to se. I have also deleted the backup now. Maybe the next time it happens it should be tried on the other processor. I can do it when my models are finished, they are now at 60%.

... Should I let it go then?

Sadly, yes.

At least it has gone more than 50% so maybe it is possible to generate a new model from it.
Sad not to reach the end anyway..

The model has crashed 2 times at the same point. I restored from backup but it crashed again. I run 4 models and there are crashes from time to time and restoring from backup happens. But since it crashed twice at the same point I am not sure if it is any point restoring again.

Should I let it go then?

The model has crashed twice in one day. It crashed right after upload of the zip, after 56,25%.
The results says client error.

I have reinstalled the pc a week ago, prime95 works OK..
Any advices?
Thx

All of the models have unique names, so it should be possible to tell if it\'s the same one each time.

And the point of this research is NOT to make a model run for the full amount of time, it\'s to see just how far it gets with it\'s starting values.
Some of these are bound to fail, and one just has to accept this.
They are the ones that say to the physicists: This set of values for this set of parameters doesn\'t replicate a viable climate model. Which is what they want to know.

Sure :-) But if it can reach the end it should..

A model failed again. Is it the same model that failed? I dont know if it is possible to see but a model has failed three times in less than a week.

It was exit code 22 but prime 95 was OK for 24 hrs. is it maybe too much with 4 models at the same time? (Q6600 Asus P5K-VM)

I hope it is 1 model that causes the trouble and not all, cause then it may be the PC

I restored, and after a while one of the models got a blue world, restored from backup again to see what happens. Hard to give up the models... want to run them to the end but will wait and see.
Report here again if the model braks down again.

One of my models finished and uploaded after 38% of it was finished. I dont find the place where I can see if it was my PC or if it was the model\'s \"foul\".

Restored from backup and started it again. Could someone see if everything is OK with the WU and that I should continue to crunch it?

-I assume the \"system\" will recognize the zip-file that uploaded yesterday, and will be uploaded a 2\'nd time..

Thank you

The model that crashed has, after restore, passed the point where it crashed.
I therefore consider it a \"problem on my PC\" and keep on crunching (and take frequent backups :-)

I have had some of those blue worlds. Every time I have restored from backups and the models have finished in the end, but I\'ve had to restore 2-3 times.
regular back-ups is a must for the project cause a lot of models fail, especially the longest ones.
Even though the models generate valuable data even if they dont finish, finishin the models to the end should be the primary goal.

I saw something that might be interesting: The backup-folder has the size 1,37 Gb but the folder that contains the crashed models, the folder in c:7program files, has the size 2,12 Gb. Does that indicate something relevant?

I have just finished 24 hrs of the prime95 torture test and all iterations passed.
I will now resore from backup and start again. If the model(s) fail again after a short time, should I abort them and and finish the others?
