Another data point:

I've had 8 models running on my 8-core machine. 5 have just finished with 22 days run time, and the other three look like they'll make it within the next 18 hours.

BOINC is configured to suspend computation if other processes are demanding CPU time, but I have "Leave in memory" checked. The models were suspended dozens of times but didn't seem to mind.

Sadly I can't continue with CPDN because my PC is unlikely to be on 24/7 beyond this week.

Thanks for the replies. It didn't occur to me to look in the number crunching forum for some reason. It would have saved you all some posting time!

I have experimented with running one HADAM3P model alongside a different model, and it works just fine. However, since I'm lazy, I'll just let my dual core machine run other models, and my single core machine can continue to run HADAM3P models as it seems to be fine with that.

Hi,

I'm running Linux on a laptop with 2Gb RAM and a dual core processor:
GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5670 @ 1.80GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13]

I've been happily running two climate models simultaneously for a while, but this doesn't seem to work with two HADAM3P models - my system starts to become very unresponsive, locking up for minutes at a time.

I notice that HADAM3P models use approximately 4 times as much RAM as some other models, and I believe I read somewhere that these models to a great deal of memory manipulation. I assume that this is the cause of my issue, but I just thought I'd write about it here to let people know about the problem and perhaps get someone to confirm it.

For the time being I've set my preferences so HADAM3P models aren't run at all, which seems to have cured the problem. However, I'd be interested to know if there's a way to set my preferences so that one HADAM3P model can run, but not two.

Thanks in advance,
Steve.

Thanks for your quick and useful answers - much appreciated. I\'m also pleased to see that your software can cope with idiots like me who keeping messing things up...

Thanks Les - I\'ll keep going with what I\'ve got.

Incidentally, does the BOINC error state mean that I won\'t get any more credit for the data I send in? It won\'t affect my ego too badly if I don\'t - I\'m just curious.

Hopefully someone in charge can sort this out for me...

I\'ve been crunching a work unit since mid December (ID 5906707). On the 15th, the process accidentally got killed, so BOINC thought the processing had finished and returned an error result. I then received a brand new work unit (5888601).

Knowing that the killed process was actually still OK, I restored from backup and have returned to crunching it as before. The thing is, my Results page reports the work unit as In Error. If I continue processing it, will the server sort itself out, or should I just get a new work unit?

As a side note, the other units on my account are all ones that I have not computed at all. If these need to be put back in the pool of work to be done, please do whatever is necessary:

5392510 - Aborted on my previous machine - it was too slow
5899290 - No idea what this is
5888601 - Sent to me after the incident above.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Steve.
