There was a credit correction here. I forget the details but I\'m sure someone will post them somewhere soon.

There is no pending credit on this project. A script runs daily that grants credit for trickles.

The server also keeps track of the contact sequence number of each host. When you change things and this number is not what the server expects it can create a host ID that can not be merged even if all the descriptive fields are identical.

Metod\'s answer is correct, however he overlooked a reason for suspending one of the models. If the CPDN server does not hear from a model for about 4 to 6 weeks it may reissue it. Suspending the running model once a month should prevent this.

While it will not help with CPDN and einstein yet, updateing to a 5.10.x client will enable any project that has updated the server to send work to a 64bit client.
26) Questions and Answers : Windows : \"waiting to run\" problem (Message 29403)

When you reboot one of the first messages will be number of CPUs. You appear to have a hyperthreaded CPU so this should read 2. The newer clients will suspend projects if there is a lack of memory. Your host only has 512mb of memory so that probably explains it.

Also, 5.10.7 has been \'recalled\' with a serious fault. Nothing official, but I\'ve heard that it can delete all of the icons on the desktop.

It may be causing explorer.exe (the windows desktop) to crash. It does not acutally delete anything and restarting the computer will fix it. However even though it is a fairly rare occurence this is a serious enough problem to recall the version.

A few projects and non-standard clients started using the \"AMD64\" platform ID before an official platform ID was created. When an official platform ID was created it used \"x86_64\". So that is the direction all projects will be heading eventually.

Updateing the scheduler to be based on the current head should enable the sending of 32bit models to 64bit machines until the 64bit model is ready.

In fact only 2 or 3 projects are actually sending 64bit tasks, most are using the new server code to automatically send 32bit tasks to 64bit clients.
30) Questions and Answers : Windows : Graphic problems under Vista (Message 29281)
Posted 19 Jun 2007 by Profile Keck_Komputers
Post:
BOINC does not support graphics on vista yet. Look for this in the 6.x.x version of BOINC. Even then individual projects may take some time updating their graphics code to work with vista.
31) Questions and Answers : Getting started : Problems rejoining the project (Message 29276)

Post:
It is impossible (impractical) to request a new model manually, all you can do is request communication with the project.

If CPDN has been attached but suspended or set to \'no new work\' while you were running the BBC version it will most likely not have enough LTD built up to download a new model. Those options prevent (reduce) changes in LTD due to inactivity. So all the debt from your last model still needs to be paid back before you will get a new model.

I believe that the next major release of BOINC will show debt on the project tab.

If it doesn\'t it should. It might help people understand on how it allocates time.

Not in the 5.10.x versions, maybe in the 6.x.x ones. The first of the RPCs needed was added recently but the manager does not use it yet.
34) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Jittery about estimated time to completion (Message 29063)
Posted 29 May 2007 by Profile Keck_Komputers
Post:
I\'ve got a similar problem, but worse - the estimated time to completion is 13000 hours (!) - and the deadline is given as less than a year away; does this mean it\'s impossible to finish the work?

If I remember correctly the minimum requirement for this project is a 1ghz processor with more than 512mb of RAM. While it is possible to run on slower systems it requires much more babysitting. As mentioned previously the server is not really concerned about the deadline as long as it gets trickles at least every 6 weeks.
35) Questions and Answers : Preferences : how do I change screen saver preferences (Message 28949)
Posted 24 May 2007 by Profile Keck_Komputers
Post:
Don\'t let them get you down. I have most of my computers set up to display the screensaver at the login screen as well as when I\'m logged in, then go to blank after some time. While CPDN does use a significant amount of the CPU to run the screensaver most projects use more of the graphics card (assuming it is openGL compliant), for example using SETI\'s screensaver only adds about 1% to crunch times.

That is in fact what I saw happening, and through no configuration of my doing.

Sometimes on a new install BOINC gets a little confused about what it should be running. After a few hours, a day at most, the client will settle down and wait a little longer than the setting to actually switch between projects.
37) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Communication deferred (Message 28714)

\"Platform not found\" means that you\'re running a Linux version that\'s not supported. Perhaps 64 bit Linux.

you mean that boinc has a 64bit version, but climateprediction does not support it ?

is there a 64bit release for climateprediction planned ?

They should start sending the 32bit version to 64bit clients at the next server upgrade. This assumes that you have a 5.9.x (5.10.x) client.

The 5.9.10 client looks to be reasonably stable, although still not quite ready for release.

The server will still need to be updated before it will work. The version from 4/30/7 or later is required.

There appears to be a problem with your system time. The timestamp in your message log lists a date in 2008, as far as I know it is still 2007 in the real world. Fixing your time may stop this message.
