There was a problem late last year caused by the mirroring server set up, as I think, was explained in a News post at the time. This was fixed late December.
This was the cause of the original poster's original problem.

This new problem is different. I'll pass on a message.
Please keep in mind that:
A) The project people may still be on leave, and
B) They aren't being paid by the various research groups to spend all day every day fiddling with credit problems.
So be patient. It may take a while.

Thanks Les.

I understand that they have more important issues to deal with, as long as it gets looked at sometime.

Sometime in December I had to renew My Cross Project ID on the BOINCStats site. Could the problem be related to that? Currently The BOINCStats site shows my credits correctly for CPDN, as far as I can tell. ;)

This is not the cause:
1. It is not limited to BoincStats. All external stats sites record the same for CPDN.
2. My user number both here and on these sites is consistently 17104.
3. My cross-project ID is the same on all external stats sites. I do not see why this would affect the credit for just this one project.

Somehow, there is a breakdown in the completeness of the data ending up on these sites and it would appear to be not limited to just me.

As they have access to the required information, I would think the project admins are in a better position to perform the necessary process of elimination.

Could they not take the credits reported on their database and those on any one of the external sites and do a v-lookup in excel or run a simple script to determine which users are affected and then revert to their own data to determine what these users have in common?

There could, of course, be some error in the exported data, in which case we need to identify whether those affected have some common characteristics.

My point exactly.

Hence the suggestion that it may be related to the HADCM tasks after the issue we had before:

If you would like to provide evidence to support your apparent statement that there's a problem with the project, it will be considered, otherwise it will be assumed that the problem is at your end.

Hi Les

If you look at the BoincStats in my signature (below), you will note that they show 729736 as opposed to the 748175 under my name on the left. I note that Chris has a similar discrepancy.

All the other stats sites reflect the same credit total (actually 729736.89).

Here's a link to one of the stats pages:
http://boincstats.com/stats/user_graph.php?pr=cpdn&id=17104
Observe the last date of credit being awarded.
And another:
http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=user&proj=bcpdn&name=17104

The two tasks I have been working on since 3 December are:
http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=13630841
and
http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=13630839

Very strange.

The last time I received credit on the external sites was 3 December 2011. All external sites have the same position for me so I would think it is not of their making.

Since no new HADCM models are available, is it possible that HADCM credits are no longer being exported?

I have two hadcm3n tasks which are not showing on my tasks list.

They are:
task hadcm3n_t0gv_1940_40_007544809_1
task hadcm3n_o0gv_1940_40_007544808_1

Is this a known issue?

What is happening to the trickles?

You have not made any errors. As you say your credits are showing on this site.

The credits are made available via an xml file which uses more resources than the project has available at present. Just be patient - they will eventually be added. Recently this has been happening about once a month.

To ease the load on the servers, I have suspended the work on my models until the server situation is at least stabalised.

It's sad that such an important scientific endeavour is hamstrung by ongoing resource issues.

There could be any of a number of causes.

Check out the links in This Post.

Is it possible that it was busy saving (i.e. at the checkpoint) when you exited? Did you suspend the model before backing-up?

I don't know why this is happening, so I will take a look, and maybe come up with an 'Official Permanent Fix' (sounds ominous :-( ).

That would be appreciated. These models are definitely yielding less credit.

If adjusted, at least it will make us feel good about selecting these models and help meet some of the deadline requirements.

As for editing client_state.xml, make sure you've completely exited BOINC-client before trying to edit the file, this includes exiting any BOINC-service or whatever it's called under Linux, if not the info in client_state.xml will just be overwritten with new info as BOINC runs.

If you have exited BOINC, and afterwards edited client_state.xml and the wrong URL somehow gets re-created on next start of BOINC, this would be very interesting, since it's much easier to test-out things that happens with just a re-start of client, and not something that only happens on 1st. download of a task...

Hi Ingleside.

For security reasons I run BOINC in a user account, not as root. It is only possible to edit the client_state.xml file when logged in as root. I tried everything I could think of, including rebooting and going straight to the root account in order to edit the file, making sure that BOINC was not running at all. I also edited the client_state_prev.xml file. I am sure that I was able to correct all instances of the misspelled "hnndler" in both files. Hence my suspicion that the file is somehow updated from the website in Oregon.

I aborted the task and have changed my preferences to run only the Southern Africa tasks, which happen to be the only type now available. This is running fine, except that the graphics file seems to have been corrupted on download. I can see that the model has not turned to an ice world but that is all (no timestep or other information). This is not a major issue as I can view the checkpoint progress via "Properties" in BOINC.

My feeling is to agree that it is not merely a PNW issue.
I have found references to malformed URLs on more than one upload server.

I think the best strategy would be for the CPDN sysadmins to search the apache logs on our servers and try to find out which models are failing, and use them to pull out the info about the client types that are failing.

I do agree that it would be good to find out whether this happens with other BOINC projects.

...so I have another item on my to-do list!

Jonathan
CPDN SysAdmin

Welcome Jonathan!

From what I can gather, the problem seems particularly severe in PNW tasks for Linux. Would it be possible to disable the distribution of these work units to Linux clients until resolved?

I have tried editing the client_state.xml file to no avail. Does the client make any contact with the URL http://boinc1.coas.oregonstate.edu/cpdn_cgi_main/ at any stage prior to upload? Could it be an error emanating from them?

Have a look at the "Total Credit, last months" graphs of myself and Doc.Brown.

Although the totals are similar, Doc.Brown is a relatively new contributor and seems unaffected by the loss of credit.
