Oh well missed those too. I now have one task still in progress over 4 machines in intermittent use. There does seem to be a serious problem on the " other side" of this project. As a windows only user the work availability has been poor to say the least - has it been better for linux etc users?. If so why? Is there something in the modelling which is dissuading research teams from producing windows models? Given that we are back to full academic activity across both US and Europe we should be seeing more work forthcoming ( yes I know the bit about postgrads are supposed to work outside of " termtime " I was one once so lets be realistic). I suppose the real question is IF teams are not using boinc cpnd models what are they using? Or, perhaps more radically, has this subject become academically "stale" with little enthusiasm for new entrants to the research field? I.hope it is not the latter.

Is there any indication from the "other side" on work input reduction?

my last running work unit (on all of my machines) -a cam25 - is now stuck on trickle up!! suppose I will just have to sit and wait AGAIN for it to clear and for more work.

Currently have six tickles stuck. I did get one to go through 2 days ago at pathetic speed. event log is saying "temporarily failed upload of WAH2......connect() failed. Have suspended all processing in the interim.

Sorry but I have lost the plot regarding the point of this thread.

I still see no work coming through. The talk about there being 200k of units "out there" does not seem to me to be surprising given the difference in the users/computers with credit and with only recent credit shown on the project server status page would seem to indicate that a lot of people have simply given up on this project (which I happen to think is a great shame but given the recent shambles not unexpected.) and hence units are indeed "stuck". I am not sure how clearing them out really solves the problem.

The debate re SAMs (surface to aim missiles???) does not seem relevant in this context

If I were researching using this project and if I had had no results from data sets which I had submitted then I would (subject to my funding constraints) be either looking to have them re run or submitting additional data. Clearing out the "dead ones" does not really solve my problem.

So (given that Oxford term is well underway and that of most Western European and American ones too) why , really, is no new data forthcoming?

I have just switched on the PC at our holiday cottage ( it has not been used for 3 months) and have a message on the BOINC notices that this project is using the wrong URL. I seem to remember this happened before and that those of us who changed the URL then had loads of problems getting back in. I presume the message is coming because the backup server is in use and that I should not change it

Is that correct?

Looks as though you were right about keeping us quiet. Have reduced my allocation back down again.

I too have credits updated and have now restored my allocation of computer time to the project. I note Dave that this new script is capable of running daily - I await with baited breath (not that I normally look at it daily but probably will do now out of curiosity for a few days).

Seriously, someone from the project itself should be communicating with us instead of you having to take all of the flak.

In essence, from what you have said, I am probably right. Create a scarcity to force up prices,

So after all the dialogue on this and other threads over the last month or so nothing positive has happened. It occurs to me that, from a number crunchers point of view, the problem we have is that this project has, to date, had too many of us to deal with the work flow. How many times have we sat with no work forthcoming? Perhaps previous comments here are right - create a scarcity of computing power and then someone might do something. I am severely reducing (but not to zero because i want to know if this thing is still running) the resource allocated by me to this project basically as a protest. I suggest others do likewise.

You have totally missed the point - for ANY important experiment PR is vital. It is decidedly lacking here. Moreover there seems to be a feeling in this project ( not the others to which I contribute) from the posts that I read that " yes it is all right they are doing good science so come what may". Well, if you are an ardent "tree hugger", so be it. BUT we all,I hope, believe that this set of climate modelling IS taking humanity forward. So this project should make some effort to persuade not just the peer reviewers of their academic papers but to the rest of us that THIS IS THE CASE. That starts by treating its contributors with some RESPECT. Secondly by keeping them properly informed. Thirdly by spending time ( and yes money!!) in ENCOURAGING people to volunteer ( and from the look of the stats on the website there seem to be a large number who have ceased doing so).

Apologies about the diatribe BUT I do strongly support the basis of the science, I just think THAT COULD BE HANDLED A GREAT DEAL BETTER as regards the relations with stakeholders and as I said in my previous post I DO NOT think this is enhancing the reputation of the university.

I seem to think we have been here before. i.e. various excuses on the credit front.

Yes any project has problems but why does this one not post them to the boinc notices as do others that I run. The classic one was when in the last few months we received a message via the boinc messages that we should change the site reference and then, only by delving into these message boards, did one find out that that message was erroneous.

Fully agree that the science is the important bit - but PR with those doing the number crunching seems to have zero priority on this project.

As an Oxford alumnus (Pembroke 1969 - 1972) I am really beginning to think that this lack of respect to those who volunteer is damaging to the image of the university.

Given the recent computing problems and the lack of communication with the number crunchers on this project if I were one of the staff/researchers I would seriously be wondering what I was paying for.

looking at server status today to see if any work is available (no it isn't); I noticed that the users registered in the last 24 hrs was 2261 but computers was only 107. Begs the question is this page reporting correct data?

I think Les that you need to remember that we are all volunteers who subscribe to this because we believe that the cause is worthwhile. I have had a -100000 plus reduction in work done so could well feel aggrieved but won't if it is restored. If it is not then I will certainly NOT continue to with this project.

I, for one, frankly, have better things to do with my time than to follow all of the threads on the projects to which I subscribe and, I suspect that, the majority of others are the same. Your comment re "real work" is totally out of order.

Perhaps you need to be a lot less antagonistic.

I am getting many "computation errors" whist running WAH 7.08. probably recently 30% of the WU being processed.

running windows 10 fully updated as of 16th Feb 2016. Intel i7 4790 64bit.

Its getting beyond annoying any suggestions (I am not a computer expert by any means so I won't get any jargon)

Been waiting for weeks for a windows version for processing - still nothing. By the look of the server status page there are plenty going for Linux etc. why do I bother?
