1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Has my program crashed? (Message 21921)

From this and your other post it does sound like you have a problem. It sounds like at a minimum the crash caused your current model to abort, probably due to a corrupt client_state.xml file. If you have a backup from before the crash you may be able to restore it and continue from that point. Otherwise count that model gone and hope the next one has better luck.

It may be a more serious problem with the address you have being corrupt as well or instead of the client_state.xml file. I can\'t be sure as I just got an error trying to connect to the servers so it could be on the project\'s end. If it does turn out to be a problem on your end you will need to detach and reattach.

Can i or should i reset the project? I need verification from CPDN about it\'s status last I heard they thought it still running

This bit is perhaps hinting that the manager can\'t talk to the servers at the web site... usually a firewall problem or similar. The manager needs to be given rights to access the internet.

You aborted one in February but the record still shows the other one assigned to you as running normally.

Anything sinister in the Messages since your post?

Hey Guys,
My model had got to about 1844, it has clocked nearly 572 hours of CPU time. I\'ve been leaving my computer on as much as possible, but i don\'t always leave it connected to the internet, I went to bed leaving BOINC running on tuesday night along with some open browser windows (not connected to the internet though) for some research i was doing. When I woke, no programs were responding, I couldn\'t get the BOINC GUI to open up so that I could exit the file before rebooting my computer. I shut my computer down and it went through the process of closing my programs one by one. However BOINC has gone weird on me since i rebooted, I have copied the messages to submit to you as I don\'t understand exactly what they are telling me and I was hoping you might be able to help me, It seems to be saying that the progress is 100% which doesn\'t seem right because it was only in 1844. I have looked at other messages on the forum (most recent) but have not got time to read all of them as I need to get to work! Hope you can help, I\'m using a Dell Dimension 3100 with Windows XP Intel pentium 4 200Gb hard drive

Hi Nikki,

You only show one computer/HostID which was registered Feb 14th. It has two results associated with it. One was downloaded on the 14th and has been trickling up (sending status reports) to the server about once a day. It has 7 trickles which is about 30% of the way through phase 1, which goes from 1811-1825. So being in 1815 makes sense. The other resultID was just downloaded today, and has no trickles associated with it. I\'m not sure the first model/result could have gotten to 1830, which would have been 5 years into the 2nd phase, in 80 hours. That would have been incredibly fast.

Hi crandles,
Thanks for your help! The second model you are referring to downloaded the other day when I suspended the first model. so I have aborted the 2nd one as it wasn\'t my intention to download a second! I hope this isn\'t a problem for you guys my apologies if it is.

I have been trying to learn as much as I can about how it all works but there are so many bits of advice its sometimes hard to work out what is right! The reason I used the suspend was that someone on one of the posts said this was neccesay before exiting the BOINC client, I have now sussed that it is ok to just hit file>exit.

Just looking at my model now it appears to be in 1817 does this sound about right? I am concerned about whether it was running ok for 2 reasons 1) I haven\'t managed to work out how to save the models progress and 2)I was worried that because I turn my computer off at night, that it was restarting from the beginning because I haven\'t backed it up.

It\'s almost impossible to tell (with my inexperience at least!) if the model is doing a scheduled rewind or if it gone awry!

Also as you seem to know your stuff, On my compter BOINC is set to run at start-up (which is a problem because it doesn\'t give me chance to connect to the internet before it starts). How can I change this?
Thanks once again
Nikki

When i shut my computer i always go in to the boinc manager and press file > exit.
Is this making my model rewind unnecissarily? it was at 1830 before I exited and it has had 81.21 hours CPU time. when i rebooted it was in 1815.

Should I be suspending it before I exit the manager to shut my system down? I have read conflicting advise (when trying to suss out how to back it up!)

please, anyone who answers can you keep the IT stuff simple as some of the posts are too technical for IT simpletons like me

Cheers

I have just started to run a sulphur model today. thought I would run the BBC model as well but it looks like it has removed my sulphur model. I assume from this that you can\'t run both!! Fortunately my sulphur model has been runnung for less than hour so I hope I haven\'t wasted to much of your time! I have removed the bbc application as I was quite happy to run the sulphur model how do i get this back or do I start again?

Hi, i have mistakenly created 2 accounts (in the first one I had spelt my e-mail address wrong!) I hit the back button re-typed my e-mail and then clicked to submit. I recieved an account key in my (correct) e-mail, and then proceeded to download the software. I configured my firewall to allow access, pasted my project URL nad account key but it is coming up as \'I have entered either an incorrect URL or password (account key) Help?!? how can i get myself out of this jam? (hoe I don\'t make such a hash of the project itself!!!)
hope someone cam help
