Has my program crashed?
(Message 21921)
Posted 6 Apr 2006 by old_user159591 Post: From this and your other post it does sound like you have a problem. It sounds like at a minimum the crash caused your current model to abort, probably due to a corrupt client_state.xml file. If you have a backup from before the crash you may be able to restore it and continue from that point. Otherwise count that model gone and hope the next one has better luck. Can i or should i reset the project? I need verification from CPDN about it\'s status last I heard they thought it still running Nikki |

Has my program crashed?
(Message 21735)
Posted 30 Mar 2006 by old_user159591 Post: Hey Guys, My model had got to about 1844, it has clocked nearly 572 hours of CPU time. I\'ve been leaving my computer on as much as possible, but i don\'t always leave it connected to the internet, I went to bed leaving BOINC running on tuesday night along with some open browser windows (not connected to the internet though) for some research i was doing. When I woke, no programs were responding, I couldn\'t get the BOINC GUI to open up so that I could exit the file before rebooting my computer. I shut my computer down and it went through the process of closing my programs one by one. However BOINC has gone weird on me since i rebooted, I have copied the messages to submit to you as I don\'t understand exactly what they are telling me and I was hoping you might be able to help me, It seems to be saying that the progress is 100% which doesn\'t seem right because it was only in 1844. I have looked at other messages on the forum (most recent) but have not got time to read all of them as I need to get to work! Hope you can help, I\'m using a Dell Dimension 3100 with Windows XP Intel pentium 4 200Gb hard drive |

is my model running correctly?
(Message 20746)
Posted 25 Feb 2006 by old_user159591 Post: Hi Nikki, Hi crandles, Thanks for your help! The second model you are referring to downloaded the other day when I suspended the first model. so I have aborted the 2nd one as it wasn\'t my intention to download a second! I hope this isn\'t a problem for you guys my apologies if it is. I have been trying to learn as much as I can about how it all works but there are so many bits of advice its sometimes hard to work out what is right! The reason I used the suspend was that someone on one of the posts said this was neccesay before exiting the BOINC client, I have now sussed that it is ok to just hit file>exit. Just looking at my model now it appears to be in 1817 does this sound about right? I am concerned about whether it was running ok for 2 reasons 1) I haven\'t managed to work out how to save the models progress and 2)I was worried that because I turn my computer off at night, that it was restarting from the beginning because I haven\'t backed it up. It\'s almost impossible to tell (with my inexperience at least!) if the model is doing a scheduled rewind or if it gone awry! Also as you seem to know your stuff, On my compter BOINC is set to run at start-up (which is a problem because it doesn\'t give me chance to connect to the internet before it starts). How can I change this? Thanks once again Nikki |

Posted 22 Feb 2006 by old_user159591 Post: When i shut my computer i always go in to the boinc manager and press file > exit. Is this making my model rewind unnecissarily? it was at 1830 before I exited and it has had 81.21 hours CPU time. when i rebooted it was in 1815. Should I be suspending it before I exit the manager to shut my system down? I have read conflicting advise (when trying to suss out how to back it up!) please, anyone who answers can you keep the IT stuff simple as some of the posts are too technical for IT simpletons like me Cheers Nikki |
