&gt; The scheduler RPC mechanism should now be working as it should.
&gt; You can force an update to update stats amongst other things
&gt; and remove those annoying warning messages.

Great, thanks Tolu - all mine have now updated without any error messages. :-)

&gt; I'm running BOINC 4.13 on XP Home/Pro &amp; Windows 2000, as installed by
&gt; BOINC/CPDN. (All at latest service pack levels).

Ditto...

&gt; Seems to be a pretty strange problem... but then, the idiosincracies of
&gt; computers and Windows (in particular) kept me in gainful employment for 30
&gt; years :)

As you say, weird...

&gt; I've got Einstein running as well and thats happily crunching away - if I stop
&gt; access for cpdn it seems to stop both and they're only short WUs. I've changed
&gt; the preferences so cpdn is only doing 1/5 hrs as its only got 20 hrs left on
&gt; it. It keeps trying to get more work so if this model finishes before its
&gt; fixed it won't be doing anything anyway.

Luckily the machine that uploaded her final results earlier today already had a new model to crunch on - 'Jana', due to upload in 24 hours, already has a new model too - since I'm only crunching CP-boinc at the moment, I increased my queue to 2 days so a server outage <i>ought</i> to be fixed before they run out of work.

&gt; (I must say when you've only got a slow machine -it takes me 40ish days/model,
&gt; it's amazing how paranoid you get about the final upload!)

Final results upload seemed to go okay for 'Alison' but the model still shows as 'ready to report' in the BOINC GUI - I guess that won't clear until she can get through to a scheduler.

There appears to be something wrong with the CP-boinc schedulers at the moment (lots of folks seeing this same message.) but all my models (WUs) seem to be processing okay still.

&gt; Nope, manual updates still working fine... three different systems, no
&gt; problem.
&gt; Updates done at 20:48 UK time.

I wonder what the difference is between us then;

2004-12-06 20:59:33 [climateprediction.net] Master file parse failed
2004-12-06 20:59:33 [climateprediction.net] Could not contact any schedulers for http://climateprediction.net/.
2004-12-06 20:59:33 [climateprediction.net] Deferring communication with project for 40 minutes and 57 seconds

is all I see... :-(

+++

Edit: Try a second manual update - I tried on some of mine that got through last time and the failure doesn't show up until the second update, the first one looks normal...

&gt; Manual update still working fine for me, stats being updated as well. Below
&gt; is an extract from my log, showing successful completion.

Try another manual update and I suspect you will most likely see "master file <b>parse</b> failed" - that is what is happening here now...

Don't worry Marj, you can still force a manual update whenever they come back online properley &amp; that resets the delay back to one minute. I've disabled all my machine's network access again for now though.

I think there's some sort of router problem on 'Janet' - I see 'address unreachable' with a ping plotter traceroute &amp; '100% loss' for a ping. Most of my machines managed to get through, including one final result upload, but two still cannot.

I'm now seeing "Master File Parse Failed" on all machines...

54) Questions and Answers : Windows : Upgrading to 4.13 (Message 6587)
Posted 6 Dec 2004 by Profile old_user156
Post:
Simple answer Mo - BOINC version 4.13, Climate Prediction v4.04 - those are the correct latest public release versions.

BOINC you have to upgrade yourself when a new version is released but the Climate Prediction application that runs under BOINC will automaticaly update by itself if a new version is available when BOINC downloads a new CP model for you...

56) Message boards : Number crunching : CP-boinc model run times. (Message 6563)

Looks like the difference between minimum and maximum model run times for CP-boinc is a little less than with classic CPDN;

<img src="http://cpdn.tuxie.org/uk_nick/Model_run_times.png">

I was regularly seeing up to 10% difference in run times on the same machine running classic CPDN but the maximum I've seen to date for CP-boinc is only 5% - ie. +/-2.5% of the average CPU time. (Computer specs via my sig.)

'Emma', my quickest machine, has only run 6.5 CP-boinc models as yet, so that difference may yet get somewhat larger over the longer term...

&gt; Master fetch file failed

I've been seeing this regularly today too, when some of my machines tried to upload a trickle - I did a manual update (rightclick under the 'projects' tab in the BOINC GUI) and they all received a normal reply from the CP-boinc schedulers.

BOINC v4.13 plus CP v4.04 works for her... :-)

"....is there any way of killing this WU so I can download another and get on with things again?"

Resetting the project is precisely the correct thing to do to force BOINC to dump this model and start a new one - so I don't follow why you don't want to do that..?

BTW: That work unit / model didn't actually complete the full 45 year run - it must have thrown an error at 72.2% looking at it's last trickle. (BOINC also shows 100% completed when a WU throws an error.)
60) Questions and Answers : Windows : Is it something wrong with upload ? (Message 6336)

Post:
&gt; Uploads have to succeed within 2 weeks of starting, which ties in with the
&gt; messages that gargulp has posted.

Damn, I thought it would be a maximum that would show up in the "Time" tab of BoincView, ie. 'attempting to upload time' - not 'wallclock time'. :-( Good thing Carl succesfully re-directed the packets for most of us..!
