1) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : *** Running 32bit CPDN from 64bit Linux - Discussion *** (Message 70635)
Posted 10 Mar 2024 by Profile geoguy09
Post:
I have looked through the Fedora and Linux threads to get CPDN running on my Fedora 39 Workstation 64 and cannot find more information. I have installed the 32bit libraries for the modelling listed on this posting (https://www.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=8916) but have been unable to get CPDN running from BOINC. I have Milkyway and World Community Grid working fine on this system though. Have I overlooked something? Will CPDN support 64-bit in the near future?

Is CPDN planned to be able to run on Windows 10 / 11 in the future? If not, could CPDN run in a Linux VirtualBox system?

Thank you everyone. This has worked with the exception of one additional step needed. I had to copy and replace the contents of the BOINC folder in the x86 Programs folder also. CPDN is running exactly where it left off in the former OS.

I am running 2 HADSM3 models on my HP laptop running Win 7 RC, which expires on March 1. Both models will be about 50% complete (currently 35% complete) and I will be installing Windows 7 as a clean install before March 1.

Can I use BBC CCE Autobackup program to save the work and restore it when I reinstall Boinc? If not, is there a way to backup and restore or transfer the files without losing the work completed?

Thanks

Dear Geoguy09

There is a very simple way to save your running WU’s while you installing the new OS.

1. Make a folder in “documents” and label it.
2. Exit the BOINC manager.
3. Click “Start.”
4. Click “Computer.”
5. Double click local drive “C”.
6. Double click on the “Programdata” folder. (If you don’t see the
Programdata folder see below.)
7. Double click on the “BOINC” folder.
8. Highlight the entire contents of this folder.
9. Copy the entire contents of the “BOINC” folder to the labeled folder in “documents.”
10. Copy this folder to a DVD or flash drive.

To restore the WU’s after clean install.
1. Reinstall “BOINC” software, but, DO NOT REATTACH TO PROJECT. If you reattach the software will download new WU’s before you can stop it.
2. Make “Programdata” folder visible and open.
3. Open “BOINC” folder and copy contents the saved “BOINC” folder from the DVD or flash drive into folder.
4. Restart BOINC manager.

I know this may seem complicated, but, it is a lot easier to do than to read. Good luck with your install. Mine went find and took less than a hour.

Making Programdata folder visible:

If you have never made a backup before you will need to make the Programdata folder visible as Windows 7 hides this folder by default. Type “folder options” into search box and click \"folder options\" in results. Then click “view” tab in the window that opens. Under “hidden files and folders” click “show hidden file, folders, and drives.” Then click “apply” and “OK.” This will make the Programdata folder visible.

Thanks you, it is easy and now understand the mistake I\'ve made in past years backing up and restoring.

When I try to launch the graphics on CP the project closes. I am also running Einstein and APC in BOINC manager and they are not affected, only CP. Is it a glitch or do I need to change a setting, thanks.

The email address is the same in all accounts. How can I add the beta account to CP? From there I\'ll merge them. When I click on the CPDN news link you have attached, the page just hangs and does not load.

I will update my info, but currently BOINCStats project page will not updat. I will try later. I will run the HADCM 160year project. Currently I am only running the Einstein & CP on the Intel iMac, which has 2GB RAM. So it should run fine.My iBook is PPC so I can\'t run CP anymore with it, unfortunately. Thanks.

My Intel iMac is completing the Beta version of CCP this morning. Should I download a new app from the CP site or will it start automatically once completed? Also, my account at CP has 850 credit and 17,000 at the beta account site. When should I expect beta\'s credit to be applied at CP?
13) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : Moving back to Terminal & retaining credit (Message 15303)

When I first started running CP I used the Terminal command line. Several months ago I downloaded and switched to BOINC Menu bar and have been running the program periodically since. However, despite many attempts to run the Advanced VIsualization without success using X11, I have decided to run CP manually through Terminal again, where AV worked fine. But when I started the program through Terminal recently, it did not update my time.

Which file do I need to replace in order start CP in Terminal with my current credits? Thanks to all.

I found this program on Apple's site and downloaded it. But I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it is worth installing it rather than using UNIX commands in Terminal? I downloaded Deep Thought version 1.1. Thanks.

Yesterday I did a clean re-install of OSX 10.3 but forgot to backup my Boinc file settings on my iBook. I have my CP file on an external HD, but my settings seem to be saved in my Home folder. Is there a way to recover my work without having to start from year 1810 again? When I shut down the project I save a file, but when I tried to run it from Terminal I got a "Premission denied" message. Since I have only used terminal to run CP and have little UNIX knowledge (but I am learning with tutorials) I am not sure what command I need to execute. Thanks for any advice offered. This is the log I get when I try to open my last CP Terminal file saved:

17) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : Open BOINC with which application? (Message 7904)

Post:
There is a quicker way of opening BOINC that works for me and should for you, eliminating the need for typing commands.
I launch Terminal then I go to the 'boinc_4.13_powerpc-apple-darwin' app in my Boinc forlder and drag it into Terminal, then just press Return. Boinc lanches without any further instructions.

/Volumes/Seagate 160G/Applications/boinc/projects/www.climateprediction.net/hadsm3data_4.03_powerpc-apple-darwin/viz/globe.rgb -bash: /Volumes/Seagate 160G/Applications/boinc/projects/www.climateprediction.net/hadsm3data_4.03_powerpc-apple-darwin/viz/globe.rgb: Permission denied

The second, I dropped the boinc and cp folders in Terminal gave me this respone:

Kevin-Duls-Computer:/Volumes/Seagate 160G/Applications/boinc kevindul$ cd /Volumes/Seagate 160G/Applications/boinc/projects/www.climateprediction.net
Kevin-Duls-Computer:/Volumes/Seagate 160G/Applications/boinc/projects/www.climateprediction.net kevindul$ ./viz

Is there something that I am not doing to launch the globe? Thanks.
