2) Questions and Answers : Windows : exiting project after request of benchmarks (Message 14963)

> The couple of times it's happened to me have been a week or so apart, and I've
> rebooted between them. Don't know if rebooting as such does anything, except
> restart the application. I've just manually run the benchmarking process, and
> the same thing happened - it failed, and the models didn't resume. I then
> suspended activity, and resumed activity, and that started the models going
> again. It might be interesting to do this repeatedly and see if the program
> clags up completely, but I'm not planning to do that,,,
>

It seems to be just fine when suspending - I've done this manually a lot of times now - it's as if the client can't unload the model fast enough from memory, so it stops benchmarking. The problem is that without the regular benchmark (the clients wants to do it once every 5 days - seems a little too often, doesn't it?), the client refuses to work AT ALL. This is super annoying since I'm running my machine for days/weeks without rebooting. I haven't tried the reboot rememdy yet. Surprised this isn't a more commonly posted problem, or is everyone running the 4.19 client?

I'm running into this problem again at the moment. I've tried removing CPDN from the memory and then back again (a few times) - it eventually works, but not reliably - is anyone else still getting this problem?

It's not a problem in itself, but the model eventually stops resuming (as it seems to need benchmarks to stay running after the ~5 day inter-benchmark period, like gandhi above) and stays off until I suspend the model and order a manual benchmark. Rather annoying considering BOINC Manager reckons it's still running the model.

Juicedry, could you post your XCOPY batch file for backing up the model? Should sit down and figure it out myself, but am a little lazy :) Thanks a mill.

By the way, the dobkCPDN site is down. Was the latest release reasonably stable, and if so, does anyone have a copy themselves that they would like to post a link to??

And when is the CPDNclassic board going up?? It's been a while now and I checked the phpBB site and it looked like the bugs have been fixed, correct me if I'm wrong.

5) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC error on reboot (Message 2524)

I've gone back to 4.03 and the problems have stopped, with crunching full steam ahead.

Hope a developer checks this question and and finds out what's wrong with 4.05. Try 4.03 and see what happens.

After I first replaced 4.05 for 4.03, it ran fine for the day without rebooting, then when I came home I rebooted, ran the client, and then, guess what, the shortcut couldn't find boinc_gui.exe. Both the executables had been erased! Norton Unerase registered that "Application" had deleted both boinc_gui and boinc_cli. Can't figure this one out.

Not sure, yet - still testing. What version of the BOINC client are people having this problem running?

I'm getting the same situation:

It's only just started since my last reboot, (ie. only once so far). I've also got an NForce 2 board (ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe), so it could a problem.

After the boot error, I found the model running (but didn't check the visualisation). Then, just to check that everything was good, I restarted the client and got this:

climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - Resuming computation for result 03q7_200029816_0 using hadsm3 version 4.02
climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - ACTIVE_TASKS::restart_tasks(); restart failed: -144
climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - Unrecoverable error for result 03q7_200029816_0 (Couldn't restart the app for this result: -144)

The model then stopped, going back to 0.00% and after restarting the client again, I found that it wanted to report results (with the correct CPU time).

I'm hoping it won't happen on the next reboot, but comments so far haven't been good.

ps. no nod32 & am running with XP SP1 as Admin with all rights. doh, and I downloaded the latest client from the CPDN website (4.05) - is that OK?
