The trickle_up files can be used to return data, but these days they're mostly just there to say: "I'm still running".
It's the zip files that contain the calculation results.

If they're just turned off, yes.
For this project, they need to be shut down gently; my method is to Suspend each task, wait until they've had a chance to stop and save all the files, then shut down BOINC, then turn off the computer.

But there hasn't been any work for months, and the last lot was for Linux and Mac.
Until the Linux failure rate got too high, when those were removed from the queue.

The next lot may be a new type of Linux model, with massive resource requirements.
But that may be a long way off yet.

Those two projects are off line.
There's talk about them on the BOINC site.

Hi Simon

The bad news is that cpdn has been mostly Linux and Mac for over a year now.
And right now, while a few Mac only models appeared a few days ago, the development work is currently on 64 bit Linux models.
No indications of when they might be ready for release; could be months.

The good news is that Linux models can be run on Windows by installing a vm, and putting Linux in that.
There's several threads about this.

Yes.
Unless you run a VM, with Linux inside.

The HadAM4 at N144 resolution tasks are Linux, as per the Applications page
And they're downloading and running nicely on my machine.

That message means that the starting parameters caused the model to run off into unrealistic physics, so it was stopped.
Which is the sort of thing that the researchers want to know, so Thanks.

Antarctic and Arctic heat records have been smashed. What's going on?

An 'atmospheric river' drove warm, moist air down over Antarctica

It was warm enough to rain over parts of the Antarctic coast

All of the climate models so far, are created, owned, and maintained by the UK Met Office.

Also, at the top left of this page, click on Computing, and then on Applications.
This new page lists on which OS each model type will run.

Except, as has been said, for the only available types at present, where the Linux versions were deprecated due to the high percentage of them failing.

You could try the VirtualBox solution in this thread, and run the Mac models while they last:
macOS Mojave installation on Windows 10 with VirtualBox

Otherwise, it could be a long wait. :(

Don

There hasn't been any work for Windows machines for a long time now. It's all Linux.
And that has run out too, leaving only a few Mac tasks, that were originally part of a Linux/Mac batch.

Hi Nigel

Thanks for that.
It may be my WiFi setup, although I can't get around the idea that my Mac complains that unsecure sites are OK, but secure sites aren't.
And the Linux machines are happy with all of them.

I'm going to dig out the bits and pieces of a wired connection, which runs through my phone line.

But first, the shopping. :)
