&gt; I don't have a clue as how to apply that..... guess this is too much over my

1) Exit BOINC. Search for the file "account_climateprediction.net.xml" on the partition that you install BOINC, open the file with an ASCII editor (such as NotePad / Vi), change the 2nd line in the file which starts with to "http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc" without the quotes. Save and Exit. Restart BOINC. or

2) Exit BOINC, upgrade to <a href="http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.php">BOINC 4.13</a>, restart BOINC. or

3) If the current workunit fails to upload after completion, detach / reattach.

Use something like <a href="http://boincview.amanheis.de/">BOINCView</a>. It can also track/control multiple hosts.

&gt; time and they are still working. At present this computer will be deferring
&gt; comunciations for 1 week or according to the message and no work will be
&gt; done.
&gt; Any recommendations?
&gt; The other computer not working I will have to wait about 16 hours before
&gt; communicate takes place. Any ideas?

While you are troubleshooting the communication problem, why don't you manually update the project (force BOINC to contact the server now) to see what happens (Select Project tab, right click climateprediction.net and select Update)? I assume you didn't mean to wait for a week to let BOINC itself to communicate with the server again. Check "account_climateprediction.net.xml" to make sure it still has "http://climateprediction.net/" as it's &lt;master_url&gt;. Use reset or detach/attach as last resort.

They are used to calculated your "claimed credit" in other BOINC projects. You can't disable them but you could run them manually at a time of your choosing. Maybe that will delay the automatic ones.

&gt; fine, but do I have to newly attach to the project (in this case all done work
&gt; lost?)or change the xml-file (I think it is protected and changes by users are
&gt; not possible?) or how to do it (pardon me, concerning this topic I'm widely
&gt; helpless)?

The file shouldn't be protected since you can run BOINC (even assuming under NTFS) and write to the directory. Just exit BOINC, open the XML file in Notepad and change the URL, save and exit. Restart BOINC. Try this method first to see if you can manually update CPDN. Use detach/reattach as last resort.

9) Questions and Answers : Preferences : \"home/work\" preferences won\'t stay on the cp.net web site (Message 4559)

That's a bug in the BOINC client (there's some other posts about this issue). For some hosts, the Work/Home/School location wouldn't stick. Beaware that even if they do stick, there's another bug where BOINC would sometime just choose to ignore Work/Home/School preferences and applies General preferences to all your hosts no matter what location it's under on the web page.

&gt; &gt; It appears that maybe LHC admins are not as experienced at tweaking
&gt; their
&gt; &gt; BOINC servers. Your best bet is probably checking out LHC's forums for
&gt; &gt; possible solutions.
&gt;
&gt; HeHe... Don't bother. They don't know what happened, and are saying it looks
&gt; like a Core Client issue.

Good to know. Funny this happens right after LHC came out with new applications/validator. I just reset LHC just in case until this is resolved.

13) Questions and Answers : Preferences : General Prefs: CP has different options than SETI (!?!) (Message 4507)
Posted 23 Sep 2004 by old_user1244
Post:
SETI's site have the most updated version of the preference options. You should update your General Preference at SETI's site and let it replicate to other BOINC projects. Even though other BOINC projects might not have some of the options listed on their website, BOINC core client would still use them for all projects after downloading them from SETI to your global_prefs.xml file. So BOINC would switch every 60 minutes even if it's doing LHC workunits and LHC doesn't have this option on their site.

SETI just take the old option of between x and y days and changed it to between x and 2x days - where the maximum days are set at 2x by SETI for you. SETI renamed it "Connect to network about every x days".

Other BOINC projects would have the same General Preference options eventually when they catch up. At this point, Predictor@home is converting to BOINC 4.x server; LHC@home &amp; Pirates@home are testing their servers. Minor inconsistencies are not the major worries for the other BOINC projects as BOINC is coming out with new features/changes constantly.
