Is there a work around yet for this problem? I've already lost days of CPU time as a result to this bug.

Why is a benchmark even run for this type of project?

Yes it did. Great, the problem has been reported. Thanks for the replys.

I awoke this morning to find my client idle all night for no reason. My system idle process was at 99%. No relevant error or warning messages were in the log. I shutdown the client, reopened it and it started running again like normal. This might be a bug with the new client, so be warned.
5) Message boards : Number crunching : How long to get 1 trickle on 500 MHz Celeron? (Message 13512)
Posted 17 Jun 2005 by Profile old_user1179
Post:
I installed the classic client on a Pentium III 600 Mhz box a while back. It of course did trickle. I calculated that it would take over 1/2 a year for it complete one full model. So I assume a similar or longer amount of time for a Celeron of similar speed.

I believe CPDN gives a full year to return a result.

&gt; See this <a> href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2475"&gt;thread</a>
&gt; for Carl's suggestion of an alternate URL to attach to.
&gt;

Doh! I almost tried something like that but thought it might screw up my results.

Thanks for the info!

Of course my new Sempron machine just got put together and is just sitting here idle with no ability to get a model! &gt;:(

Oh well. :)

BTW the Sempron 2800+ or 2600+ OC all the way up to ~2.4 GHz (from 1.6GHz).

8) Message boards : Number crunching : Hyper-Threading, On or Off? (Message 9273)
Posted 13 Feb 2005 by Profile old_user1179

&gt; I'm running CPDN on a 3.60Ghz dual Xeon w/HT. I noticed significant
&gt; differences between benchmarks with HT 'On' and HT 'Off'. With HT off, the
&gt; Integer speed is doubled.
&gt;
&gt; Should I keep HT off, or turn it back on?
&gt; /nja
&gt;

Run HT with CPDN if you are running Windows XP. Turn off HT if you are running Windows 2000.
9) Message boards : Number crunching : Progress bar 4.19 not working (Message 8473)

&gt; &gt; I had seen such problem on BOINC 4.62; not in 4.1x.
&gt; &gt; What BOINCVIew shows?
&gt;
&gt; OK, perhaps i found it.
&gt; Just tested BOINC Manager 4.63 (which works fine) but when reverted back to
&gt; BOINC 4.19 GUI, it shows no proggress. Graphics shows actutal timestep; on
&gt; this machine i'm not running stadard BOINC HadSM 4.04 but most propably will
&gt; apply to it as well.
&gt;

The next time the 4.19 client tried to report I got this error message:
climateprediction.net - 2005-02-01 18:24:56 - Unrecoverable error for result 2u7w_100153813_1 ( - exit code -5 (0xfffffffb))

It then upload the results it had calculated (I assume results from stage 1 and 2, I believe my failure occured in stage 3). And it then download a new model and now has started calculating that model with the progress bar now *working*.
10) Message boards : Number crunching : Progress bar 4.19 not working (Message 8385)

Post:
I upgraded from 4.13 to 4.19 and now my progress bar says 0.0 and the CPU and time remain are stuck at the times they were when I upgraded.

The client appears to crunching my model. The "graphics screen" globe view shows it doing timesteps. So it appears to be just a progress bar problem.

I'm running AMD64 3200+ with Windows 2000 Pro (with most current SP).
11) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : PPC Linux client being planned for CPDN? (Message 1931)

I have an Apple computer running Yellow Dog Linux (PPC version.) I was wondering if a PPC linux client will be supported sometime in the future?
