1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Backup Completed Work (Message 24424)

Well, AFAIK these TCM-modells also \"clean up\" after a successful run - So you cannot see a remaining directory by purpose.

I have a question about backup and restoring:

I have made a BOINCBU.bat file to back up the model. It contains the following:
XCOPY \"c:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\*.*\" \"c:\\Backups\\cBOINC\" /C /M /E /Y
and I have made the Backups folder and the cBOINC folder inside the first folder.
The icon for the .bat file is on my desktop.

My Q is: After I have rightclicked and exited BOINC, shall I just doubleclick the BOINCBU.bat file, and thats it?

Sorry for that late reply, but I just saw it now.

My backup-\"system\" for CPDN is based on *.bat - Files. This works well especially if you install BOINC as a service. Then it\'s possible to include stopping and starting BOINC before and after a backup process.
My \"backup_BOINC.bat\"-File looks like this:
net stop boinc
pause
del /q /s \"D:\\X_BOINC_Backup\\*.*\"
xcopy \"C:\\Programme\\BOINC\\*.*\" \"D:\\X_BOINC_Backup\\*.*\" /E /V /C /I /H /R /K /Y
net start boinc

[edit] Keep in mind I have different directories![/edit]

The \"pause\" after \"net stop boinc\" gives me time to ensure that I also exited the BOINC-Manager (right-click on the icon - Exit).
The next line deletes my previous backup, while the \"xcopy\"-line is doing the backup. After this is finished BOINC-service is started again - automatically.

I hope my post doesn\'t add confusion, but solution...

Well, 10 minutes ago I also wondered about those 5600 \"Extra\"-Credits. After some searching on the boards it seems to me that there was a rise of the credits per trickle.

Well, this is fine to me, except one thing: At least a single note about this should have been dropped at the news-section or at least at the message boards. Truly this raise of the trickles is not confirmed till now by the project team (respective Carl).

I followed the struggles Rosetta@Home had when they changed their credit system \"over night\" - Moderators didn\'t have nice days (and nights) at all. I think that credits haven\'t been much of concern for CPDN-crunchers so far, but it seems that there are a lot of crunchers out there loving their stats. (I also like to watch - not more, not less.) And if something strange happens to them they get unconfortable with it. O.k., here it was in \"a positive\" way, but still people should get a short note of such a change. I already stated this matter in a previous post: Information is everything!

Just (again) a hint for the future...

EDIT: Just found the \"official\" statement here. Still my other thoughts remain...

Is it best to suspend network connections and connect once a day to let it send it\'s trickles?

Yes. I do so, because that method is the only one preventing those nasty \"error\" status messages on your model webpage (As stated before - you still may continue with error status, but for \"stylish\" reasons... ;-) ) . It gives you more control over your model and it\'s reporting.

Sorry for the noobish questions. Been running BOINC about a year but never courageous enough to do CPDN.

Not noobish at all. Good luck!

Late question: Have you installed BOINC as a service? (Although if so you wouldn\'t be able to see the graphs at all...)

If you have installed BOINC as a service, I would suggest this: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=46712#46712

PC 1 connected to project A, B and C, and
PC 2 connected to C, D, and E, it\'ll work fine.

Well, I have
PC1, project A,B (down at the moment, network problems)
PC2, project B
PC3, project A,C (this is my laptop, C is SAP)
PC4, project B (sometimes)

So I guess, I should be just patient... ;-)

Anyway, cool stuff that it is possible to change CPID at all (I didn\'t know this).
Thanks for your answers!

Sorry, don\'t want to ask redundant, but it\'s also applying to me:

Some weeks ago I started SAP on my laptop, where also CPDN is crunching. Unfortunately I also used a wrong mail-adress at registering to SAP, so now I\'ve got 2 CPIDs. I corrected my mailadr. at SAP. If I understood correctly, I should get back to my \"original\" CPID just by letting both (CPDN and SAP) trickle at my laptop. Is this right?

I have 2 (actually 3) other machines, one is dedicated to R@H, other one mostly to CPDN (sometimes R@H); Does it help if they are also communicating to their projects (to get a unique CPID for all of my projects)? - Due to network problems (new flat - new provider) it may take some time until they are online, therefore I ask...
Thx!

(BTW: I experienced connection problems to SAP recently, now it\'s o.k. There was nothing on their boards, so I ask if perhaps someone has had the same problems...)

Toku? Number Crunchers forum? Image link?

I think Pooh Bear meant \"Tolu\", together with Carl (who is on holidays now) the programmer Team for CPDN. The forum and message meant was this (I guess): http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=4682#23245
I know it\'s annoying, that the trickles (and hence credit) don\'t rise, this happens sometimes to CPDN, but at the end it always turned out fine. So: Just be patient.
Greets.
10) Questions and Answers : Windows : How long does the \'trickleup message\' take to upload? (Message 23235)

Post:
Edit: Interesting that your post shows credit but the two machines in your account show nil.

Please also note that the trickle server is currently lagging behind; My last trickle at my resultpage shows 13th of June, so I haven\'t received trickles and credits for almost one week now.
Since I know it happened before at CPDN some times I don\'t really care.

Hi Alex, and welcome!

Good to hear that you finished your models. However, the new TCM-runs are not able to cope with the BOINC client 4.xx.

You can get the latest copy of the BOINC client (wich is 5.4.9) from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php .

Please note: You MUST uninstall your old version 4.19 BEFORE attempting to install the new one.

Also note: The version 5.4.9 has something like strict url-checking, so be shure to connect to CPDN with http://climateprediction.net/ and nothing else (so no www. or something like that).

Happy crunching!

Post:
i just checked the link you gave and it says i requested no credit? is this ok/

Well, the link above was the \"Trickle-link\", the following is the \"result-link\": http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=5293476. Here you can also see the credits granted for your current model.

BTW, don\'t be afraid about credits (and sometimes trickles) being late at your account. Three weeks ago the trickle server was down for almost one week, but finally everything was fine again. As far as I got to know from the boards no trickles and credits have been \"forgotten\" of CPDN (and BBC CCE) ever - and CPDN is running for a couple of years now.

BTW II: Perhaps you want to set \"no new work\" in the projects-tab of BOINC. This will avoid downloading models out of control, if you experience a problem.

Although no credits are granted yet, you still can see your trickles at http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/trickle.php?resultid=5293476.

By the way, I could see that quite a few models on your account had an error (0x0). I hope this is o.k. now.

What do I type in for the \"Select Computer\" fields?

Usually it works to leave both fields (computer and password) empty.

It COULD also help to upgrade to BOINC 5.4.9 from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php . For doing this, please be shure to exit BOINC properly and taking a backup of the whole BOINC directory, in case of something goes wrong.
Just install the new version over the existing folder.

Thanks for all that valuable information!

One more question: Where can I see the trickles in the coupled model?

Les once wrote:

When you go to the model page, you need to fiddle with the url window on the browser. Replace show_host_detail with result
Then you can see the old style results page.

So, for instance, one of your model then has the url http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=5430459 instead of http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/graph_cm3.php?resultid=5430459

I think this information is quite valuable... (at least for me) ;-)
20) Questions and Answers : Windows : No Graph on Result Page (Message 22708)
Posted 10 May 2006 by ds50
Post:
It\'s all the same plot, no matter which one you attempt to view. And it\'s got lots of data missing.

I am more and more confused.

1.) Generally it seems that the graphs - function for the sulphur results is still not working properly. There are no graphs for my other computer shown here .

2.) Les, you\'re right, it\'s always the same plot. As far as I can remember, this behavour didn\'t occur before the system (or design) for the account-pages was changed.

3.) Yes, I have to admit that I had some difficulties to finish my model, it was just possible with strict backup routine (PC froze over night although no errors with prime and memtest, temp. at around 58 degrees, no AV for BOINC-folder, latest graphic-drivers, no OC,...) - at least at the end. Now I think that my weird plots are a result of a generally unstable system - although I had absolutely NO problem so far since running TCM. Nevertheless, there was a discussion about the usefulness of these results here . I\'m still not sure about the usefulness of my calculated data...

Back to the graphs-discussion: It seems that plots for some results work, for some not, for some weird. I think that\'s life. ;-)
