1) Message boards : Number crunching : Model crashes (Message 33647)
Posted 1 May 2008 by old_user1041
Post:
Thanks for the answer and the links mo.v.

I never overclock PC\'s that are running Boinc, so that can not be the problem here. Unfortunately I stopped making regular backups when I stopped running Climate Prediction for some time and later only downloaded the shorter-running models. May be I have to start backing up again. :-)

This is the only computer that is running 6.x, partly because sometimes I do some alpha testing indeed, partly because 5.x is blocked at Vista startup (although there seems to be a work around for that) because it asks for admin rights. For now I don\'t expect 6.16 to cause any problems.

Boinc is not installed in c:\\program files, but on the D drive. Vista seems happy. :-)

I will try another model and see what happens.

All trickles do show now, thanks for the effort (even during the weekend, I feel somewhat guilty :-) ) . We will keep an eye on the graph.

One thing, I noticed a couple of error messages at the bottom of the result page:

Warning: fopen(../cache/e0/result.php_field%3D%26resultid%3D6449610%26phase%3D) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/boinc/projects/cpdnboinc/html/inc/cache.inc on line 205

I did not upgrade Boinc during this model. It was a fresh install of Boinc on a new PC.

This was the first server/connection error I had in a long time. When sending the trickles during the last days I never had any connection problems (as far as I know) and despite that they did not show up on the web page.
As far as I can see in Boinc all trickles succeeded (except this one time server error, but the next try one minute later was fine), as did the file uploads.

:-)

Indeed, I\'ve only one model running at this time (Core2Duo, Windows Vista).

Below are the messages of the last day, just after a restart of Boinc. Since the start of the model (also after April 17) everything looks fine at my side.

This should now be fixed and the stats program is currently running so in an hour or so the new credits for those running 5.40 (on any platform) should be in place. Sorry for the inconvenience!

No problem. The trickles are working perfectly now, thanks for the effort!

Can we wait for another week or so to get this solved? It would be a nice personal credits/day record. :-)

If you suspend network activity in the Manager/Activity button, Trickles will accumulate until you turn them loose by allowing network activity.

Indeed, but then I\'ve to stop running other projects with short deadlines on this computer.
It was just a joke, I\'m not really interested in day records. :-)

I think the trickle process isn\'t picking up the new 5.40 models yet

Thank you for the answer, this sounds logical.
I use Boinc since the first beta tests years ago, so it takes more to get me worried... ;-) These things will always be solved at some time.
The strange thing was I did not see trickles show up, but they did for other users, so it seemed best to report it.

At least you\'ll get a *LOT* of credit once all your backdated credits are processed! :-)

I also have a problem with credits and trickles. I started a new model a couple of days ago and no trickles did show up on the model page yet. But other team members did get credit the last couple of days.

This is the logging from Boinc, it looks normal to me:

When Boinc has contacted all three projects after the last change you made in the e-mail address, the CPID's should be the same. Didn't that happen yet?

Probably manually updating all projects from the Boinc core client should also do the trick. :-)

> "Suspending computation and network activity - user is active"

This means you specified in your preferences that Boinc should stop when the computer is being used. :-)

Go to "your account" -> "view or edit general preferences" and look at the option "Do work while computer is in use?".

Probably this option is set to 'no'?

CPDN is not benchmarking, Boinc is. :-)
All other projects do use the benchmark to calculate your credit, so if you run multiple projects on one PC the benchmark is needed.

I had a look on one of my PC's. The resource share Seti:ClimatePrediction on that one is roughly 66:33% (RAC = 807:147)

I noticed Seti is getting 3 hours every time and climate 1 hour. One time during the last day seti got about 20 minutes more. I expected more time for ClimatePrediction then it gets.
I've read somewhere on the Seti boards the timeslicing feature in Boinc needs some "polishing". Maybe it still doesn't work exactly as it should?

This is a part of the my log file:

I know it worked like that in Boinc 3.x, I'm not sure however if this changed in version 4.05. So it is more like a suggestion from my side. Maybe someone else knows for sure? :-)
