1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Visual Fortran Run-Time Error (Message 50540)
Posted 17 Oct 2014 by Michael E.
I just saw another Visual Fortran run-time error:

forrtl: severe (17): syntax error in NAMELIST input, unit 5, C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\\hadam3p_pnw_w0oy_2004_009086040jobs\xaakm.namlists, line 631 position 0

I have a screen cap of the error and its stack trace if you need it.

This occurred about 5-6 hours ago.
The computer ID is 1095600.
The task ID is 17214697.
The status is Error while computing
The app is UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Pacific North West v7.22.

The error occurred after about 6 seconds of computing and was reported 17 Oct 2014 0:41:22 UTC.

2) Questions and Answers : Windows : Cannot upload files and communicate to server (Message 41733)
Posted 8 Mar 2011 by Michael E.
I have 5 tasks that have reached 100% processing, but cannot upload all of the files. Processing is 100% completed. It has been like this for about one week. The tasks are UK Met Office HADAM3P <region> tasks. Smaller files seem to be uploaded, but not the larger 32 MB files.

Usually the upload messages say something about "project servers may be down", but a recent upload attempt said "[error] error from upload server, server is out of disk space".

Communication between my local PC and the server is a problem also.
3) Questions and Answers : Windows : Visual Fortran Run-Time Error (Message 33601)

In the run-time message my PC incountered (like the original poster), it was a write to unit 8. The file path and name was C:\\Program files\\BOINC\\projects\\\\hadsm3fub_jjy2_005943981\\tmp\\pipe_dummy

On my PC, that file exists as a zero-length file.

Also, on a different work unit today, I noticed a message in the message tab from something like \"failed to initialize DLL\" and \"if this recurs, reboot your computer\". So, I rebooted.

My desktop system is not rebooted often. Also, the PC uses and another BOINC project.

OK, on my PC, I did the following:
+ Stopped the HP auto update process. I will run it manually.
+ Excluded the NAV scans from scanning the C:\\Program files\\BOINC directories.
+ BOINC preferences are back at 100% CPU use.

Is there a particular subdirectory I should exclude below C:\\Program files\\BOINC or exclude the whole tree?

I can provide some Fortran suggestions on how handle the write error.

I started the Task manager, opened the Ptrocess tab, and noticed that indeed there was a software update running, \"Update for HP agent\".

The PC is running Windows XP SP2, Home Entertainment Edition. A/v software is Norton Internet Security.

I have been trying to run that system at 90% processor.

Should I turn off the update agent and run it manually only?

Mike, I sent you a private message with more details.

I also got a similar message \"forrtl, severe (38) error during write ...\" with a different stack trace. The error box appeared a few more times while climateprediction was running, and them stopped appearing.

That work unit ended very early with a Status of \"computation error\", about 7% done really.

I was not hibernating (it is desktop).

7) Message boards : Number crunching : 3 trickles a day, ZERO recent average credit. (Message 13400)

Similarly, I have seen no changes to the recent credit number for my account for almost one week. The recent average credit has been stuck at 700.46. The total credit and credit per computer have increased at values that are about right.
