Message 5009 - Posted: 3 Oct 2004, 21:57:04 UTC

I noticed that under the WU#213507 (name - 25uw_100121929) there is no other hosts listed (except me). Is this normal or I am doing something wrong?
Thanks

That is quite normal. Unlike other projects, CPDN does not routinely send WUs to more than one participant. There is more than enough work to do without duplicating everything!

S@H (under BOINC) and other projects do this to verify the science value of the WU prior to granting credit, not to generate more work for people to do.

This method obviously doesn't work so well with CPDN as the extremely long process times could mean waiting a year or more to receive credit.

A month or so ago the situatuion was different: old thread initiated by me :)
What has changed since then?

If a workunit runs normaly and do not crash only one will be sent. On the other hand if it does crash or doesn't finish normaly a second unit is created and sent to somebody else. This is normal to every BOINC-project so far.

There have also been some recent cases where the same CPDN WU has been sent to several hosts simultaneously, but the reason for that is unexplained - see this thread. The norm is for only one host to do a WU.

As to whether some projects send WUs out several times because of a lack of work, let's just say that if you have the DC resources, then duplication may well have sound justification. CPDN could never realistically be in that position because of the scale of the work that could be attempted. It isn't trying to analyse a finite data set.
