Hi All,
last time my computer was able to contact the server was a couple months ago.
Is the climateprediction server running?
Thanks

Is it giving you errors when it tries to contact the server?

Awhile back, Windows boinc was looking for certificates that had expired. The solution is to upgrade to boinc 7.16.20 if you are getting odd errors when trying to contact the cpdn server.

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

However, even if you contact the server correctly now, there is no work for Windows PCs at this time.

If you don't mind doing a bit of work to get tasks, it is possible to run Linux tasks with a Windows computer see this link for details.

I have been in a similar situation for many weeks. When I stir BIONC, I get this:-

07/12/2021 16:53:44 | climateprediction.net | update requested by user
07/12/2021 16:53:45 | climateprediction.net | Fetching scheduler list
07/12/2021 16:53:47 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
07/12/2021 16:53:49 | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I am running v7.14.2 on Windows 10 32-bits. That is the latest (recommended) version. The only more recent version is only for Windows 64-bits. I have two of those, Windows 10 and Windows 11 but they only pick up work occasionally. They complain about VirtualBox not being installed...

@DB

For the 32 bit version of Windows boinc, you need to follow the instructions here for getting the right certificate list:

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=14422#105657

and placing it in the correct folder. You may need to have administrator privileges to copy it into that folder.

And the complaint about virtualbox is just endemic to the 32 bit version of boinc. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi geophy,

Thanks for that link. Apologies for the slow response. I wasn't paying attention!

I downloaded and "installed" the new crt file with no problems. Both of the 32-bit systems are accessing the server now. By the way, I discovered that the version of BOINC running on the 64-bit systems needed updating. The new version install also fixed those certificates. Shame there's no work!

All of the PCs also run Rosetta@Home and there's not much work there, either!

Thanks again. Best wishes for the New Year.

I just download 7.16.20.0 x64 on win10 and have NOT gotten any work / updates. I assume it is still not offering anything?
I go to update and it says communication deferred (1 hour). I have had this happen for possibly 24 hours now.

Thank you!

That's the way it is. Currently also the Linux and Mac systems are out of new work.

For Win10, we run CPDN using an ubuntu OS from inside VirtualBox. If you are thinking of going the virtual OS route have a look at this thread for the limitations we have found::

After 22 days of processing mine is stuck on 'ready to report' and under 'transfers' the 'retry now' option is greyed out. Trying to 'update' the project also did nothing. Is there any other way to get it to complete - I don't want to lose that much work.

Regretfully, a week ago, the project had a clean up of old batches, some from over a year ago.
Batch 913, the one you're talking about was one of those that were closed. :(

Looking at it the deadline wasn't supposed to be until the 21st of May this year though.

With cpdn, the very long deadlines mean nothing.
A batch is allowed to run until the researcher(s) have enough data, and then they get closed.

Yours hadn't been heard from since July last year.

Thanks for the 7.16.20 hint. I was running 7.16.14 and it kept insisting it was the most recent version. It doesn't help that the Boinc website has made the link to the download page far less obvious. I had two completed WUs that were just sitting there that I eventually had to nuke. Another completed a few weeks ago and just sat there as well. I was going to nuke that and unlink the project when I found this forum thread. I upgraded Boinc and the WU immediately uploaded. Boinc must have changed their download URL so older versions couldn't find anything newer.
