Legally the mechanical part is your property, you can burn it or take a sledgehammer to it. Operating System is not. You can void your warranty.
“Brevity and conciseness are the parents of correction.”
Incorrect, they just say that to stop you meddling. They also say you're not allowed to upgrade your desktop (eg. insert a graphics card) or the warranty is void. But they can't void a warranty legally.
In the U.S you do own the hardware of your computer, but, the Windows OS is a different matter. When you buy a copy of Windows all you are buying is a license to run the OS. The software itself is still the property of Microsoft. It’s the same with CPDN. The models that we run run using software that belongs to the U.K Met Office and CPDN only has a license to use it without making modifications.
You're not allowed to disassemble the OS and use their code, the code belongs to them as an intellectual property right, in the same way as when you buy a CD of music, you can't use that music to create your own. But, that particular copy is yours. You can mess around with it all you like as long as you don't sell it. I could completely re-write my Windows OS if I wanted, for my own personal use. This discussion arose due to KAMasud saying he wasn't allowed to format and reinstall Windows. Of course he is. He owns a license to use Windows, reinstalling it doesn't change what he's using, he's just clearing out the clutter and horrid settings the manufacturer of the laptop put on there. The worst that could happen is the seller could say "you've messed up the software installation, your problem" and refuse to offer software tech support, but the warranty on the hardware remains, as he hasn't touched that. Just as if I buy a new car and repaint it, I don't void the warranty on the engine.

The legal position is the same here in UK. but I have been running open source software since 1999 when you needed geek credentials just to get Linux running. Not like now when it is quicker and simpler to set up than Windows.
I gave up on Linux on the first day. It's still way too geeky. Just look at people having problems with Boinc project software running - people are telling each other to manually adjust libraries and drivers using the command line! This is 2021!

Now about that law suit from Heinz over my open sauce ketchup recipe...
I'm still researching an objective way to determine if a joke will make people groan. If this succeeds, computers could provide mass produced cheap comedy. In fact.... a distributed computing project.....

I'm still researching an objective way to determine what on Earth do you eat that you are still going strong?
Well, when Acer made this series of gaming Laptops they tried to make it "An experience out of the box". The top of the line from this series is about $2000. Factory overclocked everything. So, they played around (with Microsofts permission) with the OS also. Now, this Acer OS considers Boinc to be the biggest virus developed by mankind (not surprising. In my twenty plus years of Boinc'ing all over the place. Anti-Virus also consider Boinc to be a virus). It just will not allow Boinc to auto-restart. I have to start it up manually after a long argument with the computer of course. Are you sure, are you honestly sure? O'Really well, no skin of my nose, then it allows Boinc to run. It is just like arguing with a Boing 737 flight computer which in the end crashes you into the ground. Go, figure.
PS. Power failure. Even with UPS backup, I have to power down.

Not entirely sure what you mean, but my answer is three things: home brewed 23% alcohol, chocolate, and swimming in frozen lakes. Like your laptops, do everything full bore.

So if you formatted and put normal Windows 10 on it, it wouldn't work? Wow. What a mess. Why did you buy them?

[scratches head] UPS means there is no power failure. Remove the USB connection to the UPS, then your laptop won't know there's been one.

Have you still got Task Manager on your laptop? If so then there should be a startup tab listing all the programs on the computer. If so then you should be able to enable BOINC manager and systen tray to start automatically.
