The "Preferences for this project" is missing any project options. https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/prefs.php?subset=project Is this a feature or a bug (or only temporary)? |

Is this a feature or a bug (or only temporary)? They seem to be there for me. Not sure if Andy has started to update the BOINC html code which on the testing site has been updated to latest version or not. |

I think Jim means that you can't choose the model type on that page like you used to. The dev site didn't have those options but I thought that was by design. I hope that those options come back on the main site as some people are going to want to exclude some of the memory heavy apps supposedly coming here. I'll bring it up via e-mail to Andy. |

I think Jim means that you can't choose the model type on that page like you used to. Yes, quite right. I would prefer the memory-heavy ones for one machine, and not for another. It would be something of a dislocation to not have that option. |

I think Jim means that you can't choose the model type on that page like you used to. Yes, I certainly agree here. Or for machines that I use on a daily basis. The thing I really like about this project is that, while WUs take a while to complete, the time limit is more than generous even when running other projects alongside, and so I can use lower powered (relatively speaking) machines without failure to complete. It just seems odd that I can't select less memory intensive projects as that would likely lead to errors. thanks. |

It just seems odd that I can't select less memory intensive projects as that would likely lead to errors. The most energy intensive ones that have yet to make it to the main site, won't run on my desktop which only has 4GB of ram. They need about 5 per core to run and you won't be able to download them unless you have enough memory. Though they will run more than one on a machine with only 8GB but very slowly due to disk swapping. |

OK, they will work for me since I will have 32 GB of memory, and can add more. But it is not optimum if they do the selection of work, since I will get a mix of big and small ones on that machine. If I do the selection, I can send the big ones to my best machine, and the small ones to a lesser machine. I get suspicious when projects try to dumb down their operations. Maybe there is a reason for it? |

I get suspicious when projects try to dumb down their operations. Maybe there is a reason for it? I don't think this is dumbing down but rather a side effect of upgrading to the latest BOINC html code. I am sure this will be fixed soon. |

OK, we can wait. |

There's been an email in about the lack of choice for a few days, but the real problem is that most of the project people are on ARL. Plus it's been a weekend in the UK for the last 2 days. |

Plus it's been a weekend in the UK for the last 2 days. And today is a public holiday in UK so no chance of anything happening before tomorrow. |

George has had a reply on this. Hi George, As Andy says, this is due to having, "upgraded" to the new BOINC html code. I imagine other projects will be affected by this too when they upgrade. On the plus side, I noticed that to misquote Theresa May on the server status page, tasks ready to send=0 means tasks ready to send=0. |

It would be better if they got that one wrong. Agreed. Pretty sure they will be looking for a way around it. If there isn't a reasonable way, then it will be taken back to the BOINC people. Edit: George and Les have I think spotted all the major problems on the testing site before it was rolled out here. The testing site never had the option to choose model types for your computer which is why it wasn't spotted. However it is possible there may be some other things that need fixing so if anyone spots them please let us know. |

The way it is shown now, is the way it's going to stay. The project people are going to do things differently. :( |

There have been a lot of emails between the moderators and the project people about the changes, both done and missing. This was one: We have moved for the moment to a separation of different apps on different platforms, i.e. Weather@Home on Windows and HadCM3, HadAM4 and OpenIFS on Linux and then HadCM3 on Mac. Therefore the choice of which app a user will run now is pretty much dictated by what platform they are running. To move back to a point where we support all apps on all platforms will take significant work and in some cases it is not clear if this actually be possible. When I then raised the matter of the big OpenIFS models, there was this: Hi Les, So they are aware of the issues. I think that the main thing that crunchers can do, is to pull up their socks, roll up their sleeves, grit their teeth, and, in a lot of cases, get their computers up to acceptable requirements. It's instructive to occasionally look at the list of users, with no name in the search. This takes you to the last page, of most recent sign ups. I've seen a computer with only a gig or so of ram, an Acorn, and a Darwin machine with 16 processors, and only 16 Gigs of ram. Quite apart from all the obvious spammers. :( |
