Excellent. That is how I build my machines anyway, and I put them on the projects that can use them.

Not yet, they will be a higher resolution version of the hadam4 tasks released recently. Releasing the higher resolution tasks may not happen till the issue of tasks failing if BOINC has to be stopped for any reason is resolved.

Sorry if this is off topic, but is it possible to post things like this on the News boards as well?

I use an RSS reader that delivers news items from various BOINC projects. The news is delivered when a new thread is created in the project's news section. BOINCStats also uses this method to fetch project news, like so: https://boincstats.com/en/page/projectNews

If news is announced in an existing thread, only those who frequent it will hear about it. Ultimately I think it could be helpful for communicating CPDN's news to the greater BOINC community. Cheers!

I've noticed new application might be coming up - OpenIFS. Can someone share more info what to expect? On openIFS site one can see that weather models could use both CPU and GPU, and some could run under Raspberry etc.

So what does it mean for CPDN?

It is the OpenIFS. When testing is complete these will at some point start appearing on here. Testing is about determining stability, minimum system requirements, correct level of credit/task and probably a few other things I haven't thought about but should have done.

The reason that there's no announcement here, is that this thread is a matching part of this thread.
If you scroll down the posts here, you'll find my post about why I created this thread.

And in that other, matching thread, you can see that these are about a completely different type of modelling program, which is still be tested.

The new model that's just been released is UK Met Office HadAM4 at N144 resolution, all of which have now gone.
They are Linux only, and are being discussed here in the Linux section.

Reading that tweet, the announcement is a little premature for cpdn.

The "release" is a public announcement by some of the climate people at Oxford, to climate physcists at a week long conference at Reading University.
Masses of models are currently being run by those in the testing area in conjunction with this.

I don't know when they'll get released to the crunchers here at cpdn.
And it probably won't be the same research project as the current test batch.

I think that could be called "Getting ready".

It's the wording of the tweet that's a problem. It implies that the IFS models are already being run here, whereas they're for "Display purposes only" at the moment. Or some sort of words like that.

And it's got people banging on doors, wanting to get in and get some.

I think we can say that these are 64bit because of the individual task memory requirements.

It will be nice to see some work done by the Linux boxes that are currently trashing everything they get because of missing 32bit libs.:)

Haven't seen the tweet but the announcement on the CPDN website, also implies that the tasks are out there which as you clearly say they are not!
