Message 59629 - Posted: 13 Feb 2019, 21:56:17 UTC - in response to Message 59624.

Hello All,

The issue with credit has been traced to the credit script not having been correctly installed following the rebuild of the primary database server after its latest failure before Christmas. We then ran on the backup system for well over a month but one of the failures notices was the enforced downtime on the project due to the newly introduced dump schedule to ensure we have a usable database backup unlike previously. Therefore when we moved back to the primary DB around the 13th Jan it wasn't noticed that the credit script wasn't operating correctly. This should be fixed now and therefore credit should appear on a regular basis again.

regards

David

I have a somewhat different issue, but I don't recall that it has been mentioned. I finished a work unit 6 hours ago (at 16:42 UTC), but it still shows as "in progress".

I am not sure if this passes as normal these days.

Jim

That one "hasn't finished yet".
Did it "Report"?
I think the process involves the Scheduler.

And I've had a few like this, but only back when the servers were having problems.

Yes, BOINC says it reported.

I don't recall seeing one delayed that long, which is why I mentioned it. No big deal though. Thanks for the info.

Hello David,
Thank you very much!
I have been running CPDN for a long time, and I know that the credits do come through eventually.
However, I have found the lack of feedback from the developers/sustainers very frustrating. Les Bayliss does a super job, but he is in a difficult position when he does not get answers.

Hi Randi,

Just to reassure you we are looking at implementing improvements to our feedback to volunteers on these sort of issues and we are taking this very seriously.

Best wishes,
Sarah

I think that the credit script has just run as my RAC has dropped today. No new credits were awarded as no trickles has been logged to my tasks pages (they were uploaded but are not visible here). Also the recent lack of work is a part of this situattion (only one task currently crunching).

The trickles are appearing OK on my hadam4 tasks.

If the model that you're talking about is this one, then there WON'T be any more trickles showing. Or credits for it.

This is a well known and long standing bug, that was finally solved late last year.
The project people know about it, and have it in hand for fixing.

But at the moment, the work is concentrated on the new hadam4 model, and IT'S bug.

Yes, that's the one. It is now at 50%. I'll let it finish anyway.

It will be great if we ever get back to daily credit updates. I crunch CPDN for the benefit it delivers, not for the credits, but watching the graph go up steadily was always a useful dashboard measure of personal progress and contribution.

Unfortunately, that is not likely to happen. The way I remember it; the daily credit updates were stopped because all the crunching required was consuming too many resources from the serve.

I'll just settle for a credit update that runs reliably once a week, every week.

Andy had been working on a script for daily credit updates that didn't involve the massive amount of processing the weekly system does. It was being tried out on the testing site which is currently down. I will ask what the current status of this is.

Dave

You mention a Test site. Is there another project that users can volunteer on to assist with "Testing" ?

The Project preferences under out accounts does not list permissions for BETA testing etc.

Thanks

It's by invite only. Just the researchers, the project people, and a couple of the mods.

There are very few projects that open up their beta/testing sites to all. Most I understand are by invitation only.
