Is there a period where a new user will need to be approved before being given tasks to complete in BionC client?
Other project groups I've joined have almost immediately assigned my PC tasks.

Hi Peter - and welcome to the CPDN message boards.

There isn't an approval period. It just so happens that you've joined as the supply of work has temporarily run out. The last batch of 377 tasks was issued two days ago (batch #558, 24th March). No doubt there'll be more along soon ...

Hi Peter

The only thing needed to get tasks, is some tasks. :)

We ran out of them a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully it won't be long before more show up. However, keep in mind that there are around 20,000 computers waiting to pounce on any new work, and they have several processors, and often use a large cache to grab lots of work.

Also, DON'T click the Update button too often.
There's a one hour back off after any server contact before your computer can ask for more work. When looked at intently, this means that you only get 24 attempts per day to get work. Which is actually 23, as the back off is 1 hour and a few minutes.

Check here for new work: Server Status

edit
Typing too slowly again. :)

Hi Iain

Thanks for the update. I'll wait patiently then for some tasks to flow through.

Be good to see the research on this topic as my daughter has just started uni at Macquarie doing a Bsc on Climate and Paleobiology.

Cheers

While you're waiting:

The main place where we post about general problems, and things in general is under Number crunching.
As well, people can post about OS specific problems in one of the three OS sections.

**********

Some of these models are long, taking weeks. See New small batches of long runs --> with problems. (These are "spin ups", that will be used on lots of future models to get them up to speed at the start, without each of them having to run extra months.)
But last year there were a few models that only took 16-18 hours.

For an overview, see the links on the front page of the project here.

The work here is, these days, created by external research groups, and the data goes directly back to them. To see where these regions are, go to the weather@home link at the top of the front page, and look at Regions, 2 down from the top of left hand column.
The one for Australia is ANZ, although we haven't had any from here for a while.

The above w@h link, as well as the rest of the front page, also has lots about the current work.

***********

It's possible to Subscribe to threads, and get a notification when some one posts there.
The 3 options for how, are at the top of the Community preferences section of your account page. The "All in one post per day" doesn't seem to work. See my thread here.
