Sorry but I have lost the plot regarding the point of this thread.

I still see no work coming through. The talk about there being 200k of units "out there" does not seem to me to be surprising given the difference in the users/computers with credit and with only recent credit shown on the project server status page would seem to indicate that a lot of people have simply given up on this project (which I happen to think is a great shame but given the recent shambles not unexpected.) and hence units are indeed "stuck". I am not sure how clearing them out really solves the problem.

The debate re SAMs (surface to aim missiles???) does not seem relevant in this context

If I were researching using this project and if I had had no results from data sets which I had submitted then I would (subject to my funding constraints) be either looking to have them re run or submitting additional data. Clearing out the "dead ones" does not really solve my problem.

So (given that Oxford term is well underway and that of most Western European and American ones too) why , really, is no new data forthcoming?

Things have drifted rather a lot, with so many people getting bored.

I suspect that the numbers listed against the various types of programs is as real as the 53 listed against "Tasks ready to send".

The recent "new work" was 1 lot of 40, and 5 lots of 120.
Which didn't last long, with so many multi-processor computers waiting.

And because they were South American models, a lot failed rapidly, only to be grabbed by more work hungry processors.

And one only has to look at the end of the User search list, to see how many new people are joining, quite a few with 32 processor computers.
So no lack of people trying to get work.

As for why no work, who knows?
Perhaps the Americans are all suffering from the after affects of the many holidays and celebrations at present.

As for those research places elsewhere, perhaps they're run out of money.
Or found out what they wanted to know.

There might be more work when the testing of the Atlantic region models gets done.
Which might take forever, if people have them set to low priority. :(

It is too much rain in the East, and too much drought in the West. On average, everything is OK.

The concept of re-cycling or re-issuing the abandoned or lost WU's that are out there "assigned" to a computer that is no longer crunching for CPDN but the extended due by date has not expired has multiple purposes.

1. Get the WU to someone who can crunch it (science being done)
2. Finish up researchers models that have holes in them from missing WU's
3. Clear out older WU's from the 100K base of WU's in the Field

They are not Dead but they are stuck in the Twilight Zone.

They're not going to get recycled, they're going to get deleted.
Not sure when this will happen, but that's the current plan.

The more recent WU’s shouldn’t just be killed off. About 1 month ago I lost 9 WU’s (4 that were crunching and 5 that would have been there successors) due to a HHD failure on one of my machines. I’m pretty sure that that researcher would still like to get those finished, but, they won’t time out and be reissued for almost a year.

Got two 771 on my new 18.04 LTS linux, so far so good. One has already trickled, the other at 10% no trickle.

And AGAIN they're only showing one trickle. :(
I've sent an email about it.

......

This is happening to me, I downloaded a bunch of units on the 6th, they tricked on the 7th and no more, one even finished and does not have anything else in the web page that the tricckle on 7th. The rest of units still have 5/6 days of crunching ahead left...

And today points only for the lonely trickle.

That's a long standing problem with the hadcm3s models.
