Script has been started which Andy hopes will retrieve the lost credit. Not sure what time the change will happen if it works. Fingers crossed.

I assume that the credit fix failed? The 500K credits missing from my account are still MIA.

I assume that the credit fix failed?

They (project technicians) still can do this manually. Only 150 K of participants with credits... :-)

Wow, the admins clearly have been busy and the credit script has turned into a poltergiest! :-)) Seems this credit problem crops up every year or two and usually a couple of days gets it sorted out. Being a good week or so now, figured it was a good idea to check the boards here and see what was up. Looks like I can keep waiting.

Are we getting them back?
Only if you say Please and then wait patiently. :)

To find out what happened and why it's taking so long to fix, you need to go a couple of miles down this loooong thread.
Take some food and plenty of water with you. :)

So...
I've lost some credits too. First time on 2016-03-15, and then on 2016-03-24.
Remember me.
I'll wait patiently. :)

The outstanding missing credit is from tasks which were archived in 2010. The account page for all users has "Archived credit (included in total)" set to 0. The project team are aware that archived credits haven't been carried forward to the new server and are investigating.

Hi Les,

Congratulations on your managing to keep a sense of humor when you have to field so many complaints about a situation that is in no way your fault!

And speaking of food...

Take care,
Randi

Oh I had scanned down enough to catch something about a new server or such. No big deal. Seems like a new server, disk crash or such is usually involved when this sort of thing happens. Not your everyday sort of thing. This is one of those "Dolly Parton" projects (she once described herself as ten pounds of potatoes stuffed into a five pound sack - classic - have used it ever since to refer to anything involving a "very tight squeeze"). I imagine the amount of data involved is best suited in a mainframe OS/hardware but who has a few spare million pounds/euros/dollars sitting around any more? Dealing with hardware upgrades or anything file system related has to promote the proliferation of gray hair (if it doesn't bail out altogether). Still, has to beat dealing with a fire burning down the data center. No worries here. It'll get done when it's done. ;-)

I'm still down roughly 650,000 credits, which puts me back at just over 180,000 credits on this project.

I'm not too upset about this, but it would be nice to get this back to where it belongs...

Mmmm. That looks like Death by Chocolate.

On a different subject, Andy thinks that he's tracked down the reason we can't create new threads - an upgrade to one of the underlying server programs.

More next week.

Well, while I got the credits back that disappeared due to the server meltdown, it seems that since that magic point in time, none of the trickle-up messages have been processed and added to the credit total since. And as it takes supposedly +86h of runtime until the first of the currently 4 WUs running is completely finished, it's uncertain if anything will be added at this point. One can only hope...

Nothing new has been added because the automatic scripts aren't running.
No point in compounding problems.

What's still missing is pre-2011 archived credits.

You may have gotten you credits back, but, this is not a general condition. My 500k is still MIA.Not likely anything will get done before Monday.

Our credits held hostage, week 3!

I'm thinking of Roy Orbison "llorando" :)
But I aint crying.
As Dylan sang it "sooner or later, one of us must know"

A week or so? Whatever.

Trust me :) I'm an ancient high-credit geezer. These credit problems DO get fixed, but that's not a top priority.

The top priority is never to lose the results of all our volunteers work.
After a serious hardware problem, that's the big one for the staff, and they've not blown it yet, as far as I know :)

As mentioned somewhere, the credit scripts on CPDN have to deal with "trickles", and old-time credits and more. Because the wu's take so long, even now.

Patience is a virtue (I'm told)

Meanwhile I keep on crunching - cause I think it's useful, credits or not.

YMMV

thanks to all

'Pending credit' is an artifact built into boinc. It is used by most, if not all, other projects but not CPDN.

CPDN awards credit based upon trickles and ignores the boinc credit system. Why? Because the boinc system awards credit upon successful completion of tasks. How would you like to put hundreds of hours into a task and have it fail at the end with no credit? Not much, I suspect. Hence, in CPDN, credit is awarded as a run progresses and it sticks, even if the task fails. So, please ignore 'Pending credit' -- it is meaningless in CPDN.
