A reminder:

There's a very important file on everyone's computer, copies of which need to kept in a safe place.

This is: account_climateprediction.net.xml
It has the information that the project needs to identify you.

Please make a copy (or several), and keep it in a safe place for when hardware problems occur.

Placing this into a new installation tells the project who you are.
And the line near the top labelled <authenticator> can be used when you forget your password.

Keeping the equivalent in a safe place for ALL of your projects is a good idea for the same reason.

The CPDN project will be taken offline for a scheduled downtime starting at 1000 UTC on Monday the 2nd November.

This is in order to perform firmware updates to the controllers of the storage array on which the CPDN servers reside. The firmware updates will correct an issue with the controllers that was a cause of the recent unscheduled downtime.

This work should not affect the climateprediction.net pages of the website, however the climateapps2.oerc portion of the website will be taken offline.

Will in OeRC support will be performing this work on the controllers of the storage array. At present we don't have an expected length of time that this firmware update will take, however we will endeavour to restore the project as soon as the updates have completed.

As Dave has already said in the Linux section:
The researchers have enough results from that batch now. But keep crunching anything that you have, it's still good info.

And Christmas is just around the corner. Hint, hint.

Although there is a new batch of WAH2 work for Windows systems you'll only be able to receive a task if you have the "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" option enabled in your project preferences.

I've posted a technical explanation here for those who are interested.

The application "WAH2 Region Independent (Weather At Home 2)" has now been added to the project preferences page.

Project will be offline from 1000 UTC on Wednesday 9th December for at least 24 hours

News from the project team:
We will be taking the project offline tomorrow (Wednesday 9th December) from 10am (UK time) in order to take a snapshot of the database. This is part of the process of the re-configuration of a slave database machine. Once this snapshot process has completed we will bring the project back online again, we anticipate that this process will take a minimum of 24 hours to complete. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Hi All,

We will be taking the CPDN project offline for a few hours from 10am (GMT) 16th February 2016 for maintenance work on a server. This work will not affect the project website. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Andy

Following the hardware failure, we are now back on line, (sort of), using the slave database.

A few hours ago there were still two problems:
This message board
The credits

The board now appears to be back, but the credits won't be back until about Wednesday.

This is because they'll take a day or so to re-calculate, and in the mean time there's a big batch of tasks for the MaRIUS project coming up. These are super urgent.
(Not helped by the downtime.)

From Sarah regarding the hadcm3n tasks with VERY large uploads:
After the recent issues with the database, we have resumed the large MaRIUS submission. However I was able to close these hadcm3n batches before doing so. Therefore if anyone has any work from these batches (350, 351, 352, and 353), they can abort them now.

Once MaRIUS and a couple of other high priority submissions have been completed I will then resend these with the correct output stash specifications.

While the main big batch in the WaH2 part of the Server Status page are MaRIUS, there are now a couple of smaller, but still large, batches of other work, which appear to be in the same place, so whatever gets shaken out of the hopper into your work queue, please just crunch it/them.

Archived credits have been restored for all users. These aren't included in the total at the moment but should be on completion of the credit script Andy has started.

OK, everyone put their ear plugs in, there's going to be screaming.

The scripts are currently planned to be run once per week.
Credits are set to start calculating at 9am (UK time) on Saturdays. So sometime on Sunday morning volunteers should see their credit updated.

(The data they have to get through must be huge by now.)

Plans for a more frequent running are being discussed.

We have lift off at BOINCstats.
My credits are back, and my position has dropped back down to where it was before the crash.

Hi All,

We will be taking the climateprediction.net project down from 10am on Thursday 30th June to Friday 1st July 5pm, this is in order to update the version of BOINC being used on the server side of the project. If this work is completed sooner, we will bring the project back up at that time. This updated version of the server code has been used on the project test site for the last few months, this work is to bring the main project up to this same version of server code.

With regards,

Andy

For a few months now, one could not start a new topic in these message boards. It would throw an error when tried. So, people just kept replying/posting to the same threads over and over.

HURRAY! As of today, July 5th 2016, the capability of starting new topics in the message boards has returned.

Hi All,

The CPDN project will be taken offline on Monday 18th July at 10:45am for a few hours. This will be in order for some work to be conducted on the underlying GPFS infrastructure on which the project VMs reside. We will restore the project as soon as the work has completed.

With regards,

Andy
