Hi Philipp

Work here is provided by climate researchers in places external to Oxford Uni.
They decide what areas they want to research, how many data sets is needed, when each lot is requested.

Once a batch has been issued, such as the one at the start of March, who ever has requested the work will them wait until they have enough data returned to them to decide what to do next.

So, basically, no one knows when the next lot of work will arrive here.

However after a large batch such as the one that ran out yesterday, it is likely that there will be some tasks over the next week or so that have failed due to computer problems that will then get re-issued. If your computer is on all the time it is likely that it will pick something up eventually.

Yes, there was a time a few years ago when the Scientists at Oxford were running the hadsm models that there was always work. They ran 619,044 of them! These days it is feast or famine. Looks like we will have to tighten our belts for a while.

Please let us know when more work is available. I was excited to put my computer to use for Climate Research, then found my system idle with no work. Am doing World Community Grid in the interim. We want to help! Thanks.

Welcome to the project and to the boards, Walter.

New work should be (but not always is) announced in this thread in Number Crunching:
http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=5447

Work releases are intermittent and tend to smaller than the number of participants waiting for them. 'Tis not like "the old days." A daily look-in on the boards should improve your chances.

Though much shorter than they used to be, CPDN tasks are longer than anything you'll receive at WCG.

As astroWX said welcome. To get work just leave your system running Boinc projects (with allow new tasks enabled for CP) as much as you can (24/7 if possible) and you will get work automatically when it is available.

I've noticed that lately we haven't been making News announcements, I guess because most people know how to find out and/or get work.

Lots of people over the years have wanted to be notified when work is available, even just before then.
In most cases, self help is the best solution.

Possibly the best place to look now is the Server Status page.
(It's in the blue menu to the left, 5 from the bottom.)

Once you have that page, bookmark it, possibly onto the Toolbar.

With cpdn permanently enabled on your computer, (and with a reasonably large Resource share), and looking at the Status page a few times a day, you're in a good position to get work.

Keep in mind though, that there is a 1 hour back off on this project. This gets triggered by any contact with the servers, so constantly clicking Update just constantly resets the back off. Best to let BOINC get on with it on it's own.
