Message 45029 - Posted: 5 Oct 2012, 10:48:39 UTC

My computer will not download projects. After i update, it sends 4-6 new tasks and starts downloading them. According to my log, it looks like it is having trouble with this line:

Started download of hadam3p_pnw_6.09_windows_intelx86.exe
Started download of hadrm3p_pnw_um_6.09_windows_intelx86.zip
Giving up on download of hadam3p_pnw_6.09_windows_intelx86.exe: permanent HTTP error
Giving up on download of hadrm3p_pnw_um_6.09_windows_intelx86.zip: permanent HTTP error

This repeats about 4 times. Can someone please help? I have been waiting for projects for months, and now i get errors.

There was a batch of defective work units, which has now been fixed. If you look at the work units from which your tasks were taken then you will notice that all the other tasks have failed to download as well (e.g. here), so the problem is not on your computer.

The failed downloads will continue until the defective models are all cleared out (some very old tasks are being regenerated but no longer have the requisite files). Just keep going until you get a runnable task. If you don't get a task when you think that others are getting valid tasks, then I suggest you reset the project as a precaution then try again.

My post here on our other board is about as close to a general answer as I can get if you're getting download errors.

Also, the project is out of work again.
This is provided in batches, and then the researchers wait until there are enough results available to decide on their next area of interest.

2-3 hours now until office hours. :)

Hi,
I have a problem I have not encountered before. I have one hadam3p WU showing in Tasks for which the zip file has remained in Transfers for several days ( Along with 8 gz files, at least some for other WU not listed.) Log shows 'Internet access OK -project servers may be down'. Server status has been solid green. Are these all failed WU and should I reset project?

Trevor

If it's hadam3p_pnw_2v7t_1970_1_007272189, then it's an old model that's been re-sent by a BOINC bug. As can be seen by looking at the Workunit page, it was originally issued by the project on 4 June 2011, and then set to No Resubmission. Some/lots of the files probably no longer exist, which is why they can't download.

So you can abort it.

Les,
Thank you. I'm relieved I'm no longer haunted by WU from the past.

Have just deleted 167 gz files downloaded on the same day.

I can not download because of this message: 7/29/2013 12:59:30 PM | climateprediction.net | Server can't open log file (../log_climateapps2/scheduler.log)

Does someone know how to fix this?

There's nothing you (or any of us volunteers) can do. As you can read in other recent posts, the project is having various server issues and we just have to wait until they get some attention.

Cheers,

However, access to this board and other pages was down this morning, not sure when exactly it came back up. Monitoring the server status page tells me that no units are going out at the moment. Don't know if it will be fixed tomorrow.

Never mind. I just realized that the server status has 0 tasks ready to send.

If you look at the server status page, second from the bottom is the total tasks ready to send - currently at 0. You will start getting tasks again when there are some ready to send, currently it is luck of the draw if your computer updates just as either there is an autoregen task from a completed one or a re-issue from one that has failed on another computer. It may be that the work is on to update the BOINC server code which is stopping any new tasks being issued.
