Hi there,
it's several week I don't get any work from climateprediction.net.
I'm running BOINC 6.12.34 on Windows XP with more than 6GB of disk space available for BOINC.
What could be the reason? lack of work??

It may just be the way that you have your preferences set under your account.
The only type currently available are the Regional models, in particular the EU type.
Make sure that you allow all 3 types to be sent to you.

I have the same problem. What do you mean by "all 3 types"? AHDCM, HADSM and FAMOUS?

Check "Server Status" (in the blue, at left) for a list of models sometimes available. (The first two are history.)

Check current threads for seemingly endless posts on the topic. This thread was more than eight months old and out of date; for example, FAMOUS project was completed long ago.

Welcome to the project. Hang in there, work is in the pipeline (we're just not sure where in the pipeline) and it will be released eventually.

To add a bit more, in my previous post, when I said:all 3 types, I meant, what was in the previous sentence:
The only type currently available are the Regional models

If you look at the list of names for the models, 3 of them have the word region at the end of their names. These are the regional models. These days, the project prefers that they be called Weather At Home models, as part of a way of simplifying access to climate modelling for the general public.

And at the moment, these 3 model types are NOT available; only the hadcm3n type, which are for the RAPIT project. More info about this here.

For many days on end, I cannot get any projects from the climateprediction server. BOINC is stuck in download of six (6) units. Any idea how to unclog it so I can resume work on this? Thanks.

Can you say exactly what you mean by stuck in downloads? What messages do you get in the event log? I suspect it may be a problem with some of the units. Are all the problem units regional PNW ones or are some the full resolution ocean ones as well.

Looking at your list of models, it seems that the stuck models are from late October, early November.
As mentioned elsewhere back then, this was caused by a mirror server failure at the time that those WUs were being created. As a result, certain files, once created, couldn't be moved to the mirror. This was 'fixed' by deleting the affected WUs, and then re-creating them once the server had been repaired.

The only cure is to Abort any stuck downloads.

This is discussed in other threads on this board. Best bet is to watch the 'News and Announcements' thread.

In short, major server and boinc upgrades are in progress. Because CPDN has a lot of unique code in boinc, it isn't a smooth transition. Severs are integrated with university servers, so...

And there's also no work at present, as can be seen from the Server Status page, available from the blue menu to the left of here, 5 from the bottom.

I also am having difficulty in acquiring a new work unit for my system to crunch. Seems it fails every time I initialize the project into my BOINC manager. I have preferences set to run every project. Running a XP system with BOINC 7.2.39 and the server status shows > 15,000 work units available for the new weather@home project.

Message 48557 - Posted: 27 Mar 2014, 0:00:28 UTC - in response to Message 48556.

The previous messages in this thread about no work being available are now obsolete.

There's a message somewhere on the BOINC/dev site that says that BOINC 7.2.39 has a serious bug related to file transfers.

Please upgrade to 7.2.42

I also have had no tasks from climate prediction, while the asteroids at home is working fine. I tried to change the amount of time and gave 200 to climate pred, no change, I have updated to 7.2.42, no change, I have checked that boinc is a trusted application on my firewall (using comodo security application), but as I said asteroids@home is working fine and I have done 8160credits of work for this project. Even when I suspended this project for several days no change. I also have 15gb disk space available...Any suggestions?

No tasks?

This is the page for your computer. If you look at the bottom, you'll see that you've so far had 45, and crashed most of them.

Whoops! Make that 47. Two more have just crashed and you've received 2 more.

I don't know what the error message means, but it's possible that one of the programs got corrupted during download.

So, you're going to have re-do some of this.

You talk about asteroids at home, so I'll assume that you know some things about BOINC. Therefore:

In the manager, click on the Projects tab, click on the project's name. (climateprediction.net)
Click on the Reset button. This will delete everything - programs and models.
Wait until the 1 hour backoff delay is up, and BOINC should start to download everything again, plus some new data sets.

@Phoebe : Microsoft's explanation for error 216 is, that the PC might be infected :

runtime error 216

I see the page in german language but I guess they send English text when your browser setting tells it to.

The problem with the error codes, is that there's 3 types:
Windows
BOINC
The climate programs

And I often have trouble telling which is which. (I think that the ones starting with - (minus) are Windows.)

Of course an infection is probably the easiest to check: just use several different (free) programs and see what they say.
AFTER exiting from BOINC, so as not to confuse things.

I assumed that "Could not launch model process. Last Error=216" must be the windows errno from a system call the CPDN control process uses to start one of its sub-tasks, that's why I checked the 216.

Of course the important part is "might" in might be infected - the exit code can have several other reasons too.

Thank you, yes this advice worked, I tried reset project, but didn't see any change so deleted project and added it back again. Now I have one task in progress! I also suddenly have heaps of pop-up ads when I go the to climeteprediction.net site that did not appear previously!

I think my Comodo Security app must have intervened! Good software by the way, and free!

You shouldn't be getting any popup ads when going to climateprediction.net. It sounds like you have some malware.
