Anyone have any success? I find that whatever settings I put in regarding cpu use etc are ignored. The program generally likes to use 100% cpu.

If I change the settings on climateprediction.net to 5% cpu and do a update it _only_ uses 50% cpu.

It seems to completely ignore time restrictions.

In particular I would like it to only run after 2 mins inactivity, and it seems to completely ignore that setting too.

I am using Mandriva so if the problem is specific to Ubuntu I am unlikely to be able to help. I have not had any problmes with putting restrictions on cpu activity etc in place though I only do that if I am using my box for another cpu intensive activity such as video rendering. It is probably worth informing people of the version number of boinc you are using and possibly checking the log files which should show you putting the restrictions in place and posting them so that those who know far more than I have a bit more information with which to help.

Sam appears to be using Boinc 6.10.58.

It would certainly be a good idea if you could copy here the settings you have in the Computing preferences in your account (the Processor usage section of it). We can't see any of your preferences unless you post them for us.

It isn't always immediately obvious what all these settings mean or what effect they will have.

I am using Ubuntu Lucid and BOINC 6.10.58, compiled from the Meerkat repository, and all the settings work as they should. The "computing preferences" on the user account web page is generally for setting up new clients, after which it's better to modify them on a per host basis in BOINC Manager. Click on "preferences" and set appropriate values for "use no more than:" and "do work after idle for:" I would recommend not going lower than 20%, as you may not finish any projects.
