Hi all,

Bear with me, because this is a bit complicated to explain...

I have recently returned to climateprediction.net after over a year's hiatus. I had a model run that was about halfway through at the time, and backed it up to an external hard drive. Since then, I have upgraded my computer and OS, so that it is essentially a brand new machine. To make a long story short, so many versions of BOINC had arrived since my last one (5.10.3 or 5.10.13, I think), that I had forgotten the restore method. What I ended up doing initially was installing the latest version of BOINC and attaching to my climateprediction.net account, before copying over my old files. Unfortunately, this meant that a new computer ID (1105960) was created on my account and a new task assigned. I aborted the task, uninstalled BOINC, and started over.

I eventually got my old run transferred over to the new BOINC version properly (after uninstalling and reinstalling several times), and now the old run has picked up where it left off, which is good, using the old computer ID (252740). First I had to install the old version of BOINC, delete everything, copy over the old backed up BOINC, restart BOINC, make sure everything was ok, and *then* finally install the latest version of BOINC (6.10.58), whereupon it migrated everything and started running my old model again.

However, going to my account page, I now have two identical computers listed, with different ID's, one with the old task that is now running on my new machine, and one with the new task that was just assigned, but never had a chance to download. When I tried to merge the two computers (so that I would have access to the new task later), I got the following error message:

Host 252740 has overlapping lifetime: (10 Oct 2010 - 10 Oct 2010), (18 Nov 2005 - 10 Oct 2010)

The lifetime in the first parentheses is apparently the record of my computer when I installed the new BOINC and got the new (aborted) task. The other is the original record of the computer when I successfully got it to start up my old run again. I realize now that I shouldn't have attached the new version of BOINC to my account to begin with: I should have done the above procedure where I installed the old version of BOINC *first* and then had it migrate to the new version. Too late now...

My question is, is there any way to get these two computer ID's reconciled? If not, is there any way to get the new task (now assigned to 1105960) that was assigned to me transferred to the original computer ID (252740) ? Or is that task pretty much lost forever now? Or, failing that, how do I "re-attach" my BOINC install to the new computer ID?

In case it helps, here are the old and new task ID's

Old ID (Which is now running on my new machine on computer ID (252740)): 8301434

It looks like this ID may not even work anymore for credit, as it shows up as past the deadline and Status is "No reply". Should I just abort it?

New ID (The one that was assigned to me when I installed a fresh copy of BOINC before transferring over my old files): 11006148

I tried to abort this task, but apparently, the server didn't see that I had done so, because it still says "In Progress". This is the one that I can't figure out how to "re-attach" to.

Any help would be appreciated, and please let me know if I need to clarify anything!
