Message 49216 - Posted: 26 May 2014, 20:09:33 UTC - in response to Message 49212.

Many thanks.
At this moment my CPU run in turbo 3.7GHz, should be 3.9GHz, I lowered down to make sure do not get over 75 degree Celsius,
GPU run as standard, but is factory over clocked, in turbo run 1045MHz, should be 954MHz, under full load gets to also to 75 degree Celsius,
Ram is 2400MHz as factory, but fun cooled run at 35 degree Celsius, zero error.
Could be one of this a case?

Yes

Also, we don't use GPUs here, so that doesn't matter, except for the heat it creates from other uses.

Veridian

With the error message that you keep getting, you appear to have restricted memory use far too much, either on the web site, or in your local preferences on your computer. Or both.

Message 49295 - Posted: 3 Jun 2014, 21:08:30 UTC

For some reason the climateprediction models would fail immediately after only a couple of seconds, I tried another project, it seemed to work okay. I have wiped and reinstalled the box for another reason, I am running boinc version 7.4.2 (x94) on Ubuntu 14.04.

I believe that I may have been having the linux 32b/x86_64 problem described here:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=6746

I have followed the instructions in:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=7729&nowrap=true#47953

and installed "32z1, 32ncurses5 and 32bz2-1.0"

This is the host:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1324331

Please re-enable the host, to test if the fix worked.

Hello Ben

Yes, that was the problem.
I've just emailed the project and asked for that computer to be unblocked.

Hi there, taken me a while to do this, but I've installed the 32-bit patches as suggested. Hope this fixes the crashing models problem.

CP.net I still need help:

I checked the machine that was unblacklisted last month today and it had 0 WU done, so I looked up the machine information:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1324331

and it appears it is still crashing models:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=1324331

It is an AMD machine with Ubuntu 14.04LTS x86_64

I have installed: ia32-libs libstdc++6 libstdc++5 freeglut3

When I check /var/lib/boinc-client/stdoutdae.txt I see:

Has anyone else seen this? Is it an odd permissions problem?

user "boinc" owns the directory:
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/climateprediction.net
and all files within it. Any suggestions?

I would be happy to post/pastebin anything else that would be useful.

OctaneZ,

I'm still seeing the following in stderr for the newly crashed tasks for your AMD 8320.

../../projects/climateprediction.net/hadam3p_anz_6.10_i686-pc-linux-gnu: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

which suggests some compatibility library is still not installed.

I suggest going into a terminal window and changing directory to the projects/climateprediction.net folder under your boinc folder, then doing a

sudo ldd hadam3p_anz_6.10_i686-pc-linux-gnu

and seeing what dependencies are still not installed.

I received the e-mail this morning for this host: http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1322233. Based on what I've seen in this thread, I'm pretty sure I was missing the 32-bit libraries. I've installed them and should be good to go. If there's any other action I need to take, please let me know.

Thanks!

I just got an email: Your computer (host # 1276960) described below appears to have a misconfigured BOINC installation and is crashing models.

Looking at my other computers I'm seeing some errors, too, but I'm not sure where to even start troubleshooting these. This thread it too long and has too many different configurations under discussion to be really useful for that :-).

Thanks!

Hi Morgan,

a couple of things occur to me.

1. you are using an old version of the BOINC software. Going to the latest version may help, though I note your other computers are also using the same version so that may not be the answer.

Your tasks are all crashing with the same error

<core_client_version>6.8.44</core_client_version>

</stderr_txt>
]]>
Found by going to the task page and clicking on the + by stderr.
It may be worth detaching from the project with the computer and then reattaching or clicking on project reset as you may have some corrupted files downloaded. If that doesn't work, post in the number crunching section of the board and someone wiser than I will probably have the answer.

The model process may fail to launch because of a virus checker (blocking or having quarantined) or some other permissions problem. There was also a rather bizarre problem a while ago, which I had thought fixed, in which a probably malign application inserted itself in the root directory as "Program", which confused the BOINC/CPDN launcher which didn't handle spaces in paths such as "Program Files".

NONE of my computers run Microsoft Windows of any version. They ALL run Ubuntu Linux 14.04 with all updates applied. ClimatePrediction is one of the FEW applications for BOINC that fails to run in BOINC 7.2.42, 7.3.15 and 7.4.8

7.2.42 on one computer ONLY has run climateprediction and only intermittently.

And yet they're all crashing large numbers of models, as can be seen by looking at the tasks list for each computer.

One, at least, has a missing 32 bit library file.
Possibly they all do.
