Keep getting

11/22/2009 3:14:37 PM climateprediction.net Started upload of hadsm3mh_kqnw_006312792_2_1.zip
11/22/2009 3:14:54 PM climateprediction.net [error] Error reported by file upload server: [hadsm3mh_kqnw_006312792_2_1.zip] locked by file_upload_handler PID=8771
11/22/2009 3:14:54 PM climateprediction.net Temporarily failed upload of hadsm3mh_kqnw_006312792_2_1.zip: transient upload error

I need some sort of fix to this; especially as I\'m unable to stay online continually anymore. Lets just say that the US job market sucks, as do layoffs; and due to this I\'ve been unable to pay my broadband bill. As such, I\'m on dialup, and can\'t remain online at all times, and those times I\'m on, my phone is also unuseable for calls. If there\'s some sort of remedy to this...

Edit: had to force a retry now, but it finally took. In any case, I\'ve got stuff to do now (actually held off on some stuff), so need to go offline now.

Hi Nuadormrac

I\'m sorry to hear you now have dialup rather than broadband and sorrier still about the job.

I\'m no expert on connection problems but I think the PID error can be a glitch either on the computer or the server. I don\'t think it indicates a problem you need to do anything about. More likely part of a transfer that\'s happened out of sequence and temporarily locked a file. We\'ve had a couple of similar reports of this and those uploads were later successful.

CPDN can wait plenty of time for uploads to begin or complete. The previous two-week Boinc upload time limit has been extended so your uploads shouldn\'t time out after a transient error.

There should be no problem about running CPDN offline most of the time. Trickles can accumulate, then several can upload together.

If I were you I\'d avoid processing HadAM3P models while you have dialup. The downloads and uploads are massive. Keep to HadSM and HadSMMH which only produce relatively small files at the end of each phase. You can select which models you prefer in the ClimatePrediction preferences in your account.

Hi, I currently have 10 HADAM3P 6.06 files stuck at the uploading stage. These are across two Intel i7 boxes and an AMD box.

Is it a server problem, or, because I changed my profile to only accept mid Holocene models to help Iain with his Iceworld study?

OK, answered my own question. I have, temporarily, re-enabled HADAM3P acceptance, and I can now upload.

Weird bug.

One of the 3 servers that the hadam3p models use for uploading their zip files, has been \'off-air\' recently to move data, because the HD was nearly full. It\'s now back on line.
This was mentioned in the News and Announcements thread at the top of this forum, in the News part of News and Announcements near the top of our alternative message board, here, and also on the BOINC/dev board.

Each of these can be \'subscribed\' to, so that you get an email each time there\'s a new post. But you do have to enable email in your project prefs for this to work.

The CPDN server that was down for data removal was probably reenabled just before your files were able to upload. So there wasn\'t a weird bug....

Thanks guys, I realised that later, after going through all the recent threads.

Just weird timing on my part.

Try this:
1) Click on Network activity suspended.
2) Just above this, click on Suspend to stop BOINC.
3) Click on Exit.
4) Restart BOINC.
5) Click on which ever Run option you normally use for BOINC.
6) Click on which ever Network option you normally use.

(Optionally, while BOINC is shut down, you may want to also re-boot the computer between steps 3 and 4, just in case.)

Post back if you still have problems.

And remember, there\'s a time limit of 14 days from when you first start the upload before BOINC gives up and aborts all of the files.

The two-week time limit for file upload attempts was extended after we complained so loudly to Boinc in the summer. It\'s now at least a month.

If I remember correctly, another member with the PID message did nothing and changed nothing. The file uploaded correctly a day later.

Have tried as suggested, with reboot of the computer, but it\'s giving the same error.. I have four completed models waiting to upload, the trickles worked without problems. Have had the uploads stuck like this for about 10 days now.

The time limit was changed - it\'s now 90 days - on 14 August 2009. That means you need to be running one of the BOINC v6.10.xx range to benefit from the extension. All BOINC v6.6.xx versions and earlier will still give up after 14 days.
If I remember correctly, another member with the PID message did nothing and changed nothing. The file uploaded correctly a day later.

As shown in the logs, the PID problem happens on the file upload server, not on the user\'s computer. The member may have done nothing in the earlier case, but I suspect Milo may have rebooted the server.

I know the logs seems to show an error with the upload server, but then why do I seem to be the only one reporting this upload problem?

The problem continues:

When this was reported on earlier occasions there was only one post about the problem. If it had affected everyone we\'d have had more posts, but often other members also suffer a problem and don\'t notice or don\'t post about it.

Richard\'s asked Milo, the programmer who looks after the servers, about your problem but hasn\'t yet received a reply.

If I were you I\'d suspend Boinc network activity for the time being if possible. The model(s) can continue processing.

BF, what version of Boinc have you got? I can\'t see from completed models in your account because your computers are hidden.

The server status page looks as if everything\'s running OK in Oxford at the moment. There may have been some temporary glitch with one server. Temporarily failed uploads shouldn\'t be anything to worry about as Boinc will keep retrying.

In the case of HadAM3P all three final files go to different servers(!) so your #2 and #3 files must have uploaded without problems.

I\'m just hoping that the server which takes the HadAM3P #1 files hasn\'t almost filled up; I think this would cause the server to refuse to accept any more files, though it would still display on the server status page as running.

If you can let us know whether Boinc\'s next upload attempt is successful that would be very helpful.

Sorry, no (my previous quote was too short).
Only #3 is uploaded.

I have 2 AM3Ps that will finish in less that 8 hours. They are presently suspended. I don’t want the zip files stuck in the transfer tab. Is it safe to let them finish or should I keep it suspended for a few days?
