I have been getting a significant number of errors the past week. Here is a sample error:

***
forrtl: severe(38): error during write, unit 8, file
C:\\ProgramData\\BOINC\\projects\\climateprediction.net\\hadsm3fub_kbc6_006471872\\tmp\\pipe_dummy

Image PC Routine Line Source
hadsm3_um_6.07_wi 0064C8A2 Unknown Unknown Unknown

Basic answer: We don\'t know why this happens, or how to cure it.
If you use Advanced search near the top of this page, and set the search string to Fortran, and the Search limits to 1 year, you\'ll see the most recent collection of previous threads/posts about it.

There\'s a few more on our alternative board, with more of the same replies.

It says Visual Fortran because the models are written with this code. So Fortran doesn\'t mean a problem in your computer. (Or not a problem we know about.)

I saw this message a few times. Each time the message appeared I cancelled it, my models continued successfully and after a few days the message stopped appearing.

But some members see the message repeatedly. If the Fortran message appeared continually on my computer I would set ClimatePrediction to No new tasks in the Boinc manager projects tab, wait until my current models had completed, then reset CPDN, detach from CPDN then reattach saying I\'m an existing member and giving the same email address as before. I would hope that receiving all new files from CPDN would fix the error.

Today I got the same thing. Before I had an \'Iceworld\' ,quit about 9000 TS after finishing the 1st phase. And now again a \'Iceworld\' with repeatedly this Fortran-error message.
After closing the BOINCmanager (with closing all BOINC-Apps), I saw in the TaskManager still 2 Files \'hadsm3mh_um_6.02_windows_intelx86.exe*32\' ?!?

I don\'t think the iceworlds will be connected with this Fortran message, just a coincidence.

If you have no running CPDN tasks or only new ones that you haven\'t invested much time and effort in, I\'d detach from CPDN then reattach as I explained in my last post here. Get rid of all the old files.

I thought on \'iceworld\' because that task is blue on TemperatureScreen and have no clouds, but Date and Time is 00.00.0000 at 00:00 ......

OK, I\'ll do so.
I also excluded BOINC-Folder (and sub-Folders) to be scanned and protected from the AntiVirus-Program (Norton Internet Security)

That \'blue\' will be the globe colour before the task has even started processing.

Yes, blue is the default colour for the temperature display so at the very beginning before the model has produced climate this is what we see.

An \'iceworld\' is a big problem later in some HadSM and HadSMMH models. The model starts to progress very slowly or very fast and the graphics colours revert to the defaults. The problem is described here. As far as we know it\'s a processing problem but not caused by the Fortran error.

Excluding the Boinc folders from antivirus scans is also a good idea and may help to eliminate the Fortran error.

I found some technical details from Windows7 about the Fortran-error, which stopped the application:
