First of all : THX for granting this WU

At 10.10.08 My Computer was infected by a Virus-worm with a Trojan-Generator on Board. It was sent by an e-mail attachement : \'[NO REPLY]UPS Tracking Code\' - Mail with attachement. After the deleting of several infected Files, Windows started corrupted: No Shortcuts on Desktop, no \'Explorer\' (and its functions) worked, only by the Task-Manager I could start some programms . First of all I looked if BOINC works, and what happens to the CPDN-WU? As I saw that BOINC is working as it should and the CPDN-WU was still crunching, I choose to wait with the New-Installation of Windows just the CPDN-WU is done...so I let the machine crunch...
at 21.10.08 12:00 (UTC+2) the CPDN-WU was done, but I couldn\'t report it at this time (Database-M).

After reporting I saw: workunit error, check skipped, but the credit was granted. THX for that.

It seems that the \'CPDN-Monitor\' uses some \'explorer-functions\' , what causes the error-messages in the \'stderr out\'.

I hope that CPDN can use the results from that WU.

P.S.: Now I can start the New-installation....*finger crossed*

The \"Workunit error - check skipped\" message on the result and the \"Too many total results\" message on the work unit are confusing, but don\'t matter. The messages are caused by the \"max # of error/total/success tasks\" numbers set in the work unit. It is a complete mystery to me why the project does not set those numbers correctly.

The \'stderr out\' text can be generated at any time, not just at the end - so the text may relate to the problems on your machine caused by the virus, or they may be from an earlier time.

I hope that CPDN can use the results from that WU.
The results look correct to me: the final trickle is there (i.e. timestep 259,248 in phase 4 of a hadsm3mh model) and the temperature and precipitation graphs look right.

Well done, and thanks for finishing it.

In case anyone else has a similar problem with malware in future, it would be possible to back up the complete contents of the BOINC folder (or for a computer with BOINC v.6 the BOINC Data folder) onto some external media eg an external hard drive or USB stick. You could then wipe/clean/delete your complete infected main disk. You could reinstall your operating system and get it working properly. After that you could restore the BOINC folder to your main disk and reinstall BOINC to the same location.

By doing this you\'d be able to clean up the computer much sooner and wouldn\'t need to wait until the model had completed.

CPDN is very grateful to members like littleBouncer who make great efforts to complete their models.
