i downloaded \"security updates\" from microsoft for my windows xp (home edition, service pack 2) and boinc (version 6.2.19 for windows intelx86) starting dying and hanging up \"reconnecting to local host\".
it did this four times in less than one hour.

the updates in question are
KB 956 803
KB 956 841
KB 957 095
KB 954 211
KB 956 391

thanks!

I don\'t keep track of the updates, but the latest didn\'t cause a problem on 2 quad cores, running XP Pro, SP3, BOINC 6.2.18

Suspended the models
(menu) Advanced -> Shut down connected client
(menu) File -> Exit
Allowed Windows to install updates and shut down

Re-booted
BOINC re-started OK
Re-started each model

Everything OK.

Did you reboot after installing the updates?

You could reinstall the updates one by one to identify which is causing the problem.

also thought of that, but as i removed them, it was indicated that removal of one would cause the others (of the listed group of updates) to not function correctly ... so i\'m inclined to think that i\'ll just wait a while and see what microsoft does. this happened several years ago ... updates that caused problems. took them about three months to come out with \'new\' updates that didn\'t cause the problems. oddly enough, the old updates kinda \'disappeared\'. ;)

it\'s working now, so i\'m leaving it alone for a while.

July update 951748 and this week\'s 956803 are causing connection problems with old versions of the ZoneAlarm firewall (6.5.645.000~7.0.482.000).

Solution: upgrade to 7.0.483.000 or 8.0.059.000.
