A week ago my computer started downloading a UK Met Office HADAM3 6.01 problem which has stuck at the last 4 files. The download temporarily fails and retries again and again. The files are dth20l_097s08.anc.gz, ssta2000.anc.gz, sicea2000.anc.gz, and namelist.carbon. How can this difficuly be resolved?

Has your computer been trying to finish this download for a whole week?

There have been quite a few reports on the Beta forum of other types of model stalling during download. When one of mine got stuck and the Retry button had no effect, in the BOINC Activity menu I switched from Run always to Suspend several times. The download then resumed.

If that doesn\'t work I think you should keep your account model preference set to HADAM, abort this download by clicking the Abort Transfer button, then see whether the next one downloads properly. If it downloads without problems this could mean your current stuck download was due to an anomaly in this particular model. We will at least be able to look at the whole workunit your stuck model belongs to and see how other computers managed with it.

If another HADAM download gets stuck we\'ll have to look at your problem in more detail.

Could you please post back to tell us what happens.

I tried to download them from the climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk download directory with wget - result is a 404 error (i.e. not found).

Does the message tab tell any reason why the download failed? If it is a 404 error / not found, retry will not help at all.

Since the computer was turned off and of several times during the week I did not put any confidence in the suspend option. I aborted the downloading of all 4 files. Then the problem hadcm3ivolc_12p6_2000_80_06001840_0 was downloaded and began execution. Now things look normal.

The problem which had difficulties is hadam3h_c_97s08_2000_2000_4_4.

Thank you for the assistance. My computer is now humming on both cpus.

The same workunit downloaded correctly to 4 or 5 other computers including one with Linux like yours. But I wouldn\'t worry about that as there\'s nothing in the messages to indicate a problem within your computer. Some downloads just inexplicably fail to complete.

If the same thing happens again in future and the download Retry button has no effect, try as I suggested above: start and stop BOINC activity a few times in the Activity menu. You could also try starting and stopping BOINC network activity a few times. But I wouldn\'t personally keep trying for days. There are plenty of other models to run. Anyway, nobody could say you didn\'t do your best!

Don\'t draw the wrong conclusions from that. The files that failed could have been part of the model type, but independant from the result.

So successful downloads can also mean, that those boxes already had the missing files from previous workunits of the same type.
