I was asked recently if I would consider joining CPDN-Beta. I would be very happy to do this, and have a new computer ready to go on this project but I find that “account creation is currently disabled”. Will it be possible to join any time soon? If not, I’ll just load the new box with straight CPDN and carry on crunching. I\'m not able to post on the \"Beta\" message board as I don\'t have an account.

Are you trying to create on the webpage or through the BOINC software? Try the other way?

Thanks, Pooh Bear. I was trying from the website; I\'ll try via BOINC as soon as I\'ve got the OS and other stuff loaded.

It\'s set up as a separate project so you have to attach using the Attach to project option in the Tools menu of BOINC manager. Then paste in the Beta2 project address. You\'ll have to join as a new member, not an existing one, and use the same name and email address as on CPDN so your two accounts match up.

For everyone\'s information, the CPDN beta project is for members like GW and PoohBear who have a good model completion record, know what they\'re doing, are prepared to make frequent backups and check the forum regularly to report progress, and don\'t mind waiting ages (I really do mean ages!) for their credits to be activated and exported to the stats sites. Overclockers must be prepared to test their computer for stability; this is of course just as important here on CPDN.

The current beta2 models are 200-year HADCMs for Windows and Linux (no Mac version yet), so anyone joining now has to want to run one of these to completion - 4 months minimum running 24/7 on a fast computer, 6 months on one that\'s not so fast.

Tolu may be making an improved version of the 200-year beta models available soon. If and when he does that we\'ll probably announce it on this forum and encourage experienced CPDN members to attach to beta2. I can\'t predict an exact date for that as I only know that the improved version isn\'t ready yet.

Tolu has released a new version of the HADRM3 Spinup model for all platforms, including Intel Mac.

Yes, I\'ve just seen that myself on the beta site; it\'s very welcome news. Some Mac owners had been waiting to get started.

Hi again GW

I received a couple of private messages from CPDN members saying they couldn\'t attach to Beta2 (BOINC manager > Tools > Attach to project > attach wizard) because account creation was disabled.

I checked this myself yesterday, found that account creation had in fact been disabled for about two weeks, then sent Tolu a private message. He has enabled account creation again.

He probably disabled it to stop new members downloading more \'original\' version 1.1 spinups, then forgot to enable it again after he\'d made version 1.2 available.

Apologies to GW and others who\'ve spent time trying to attach unsuccessfully. I hope you will still want to try again!
