I downloaded a new version of boinc the other day and now the communications don\'t work. I went to advanced and options there is nothing under connections. Tied seting default and nothing happened. Can anyone tell me how to reconnect?

Thanks

Have you tried \'advanced / select computer\', and then just clicking OK and leave everything blank?

Does it say anything in the lower-right hand corner of the Boinc manager? (i.e., connected or disconnected). This is the communication between the Boinc manager and the Boinc client (which does the work).

The other kind of connection is the connection from the Boinc client back to the project servers at Oxford. Problems in this area would usually show up in the \'messages\' tab (things such as \'http error\').

It may be worth looking at the readme file called \'crashes and other problems\', in the \'network\' section to see if there is anything which sheds light on your problem.

The usual cause of this is a firewall setting, which is blocking the connections to the net. This may have been changed with installing the new BOINC version, although it shouldn\'t have.

The connected is showing in the right hand corner but the message I am getting is

\"Scheduler request failed:couldn\'t resolve host name\"

An error keeps being flagged up to say to go to advanced/options/connections and set default, there is not default?
Any suggestions

Hi,

It looks very much like a firewall problem (preventing the Boinc client talking to the project servers). Which firewall do you use?

What sometimes happens after updating the Boinc manager+client is that because it is a new executable, you need to set up the firewall rules to permit the new version to access the internet. For example, if you have the Windows built-in firewall, you\'ll need to select \'settings\', \'control panel\', \'windows firewall\', \'exceptions\', and then make sure both the Boinc manager and the boinc client are listed (boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe).

-- Edit: A very belated \'snap!\'

I\'ve been spending from 11PM to now (1:40AM) trying to sort out my own networking issues, just updated the device drivers for my chipset...

You need to create a default.
(I don\'t have anything in the default either, and it works.)

So I think that you should check that your firewall is still letting BOINC through to the net after the upgrade.
Also, sometimes Window\'s monthly update can mess this up.

edit
Mike beat me to it again. :)
