Is the memory required to run hadsm3 higher than before? Or is the server just confused?

17/02/2008 11:25:49|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 33 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
17/02/2008 11:25:53|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks
17/02/2008 11:25:53|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Your computer has 1023.53MB of memory, and a job requires 1464.84MB
17/02/2008 11:25:55|climateprediction.net|Started download of hadsm3fub_038v_005930460.zip

PS: I have in my preferences to only download hadsm3; no hadam3.

It\'s a confusing message isn\'t it? It just means that one of the job types on offer (HADAM3) has a large memory requirement - even if the preferences exclude it. So far as I know, the HADSM3 is the same as ever.

I\'ll post a message where the project can see it, to see whether a preference-dependent message can be implemented.

It might be that your preferences are ineffective - the most common reason for this is \'venues\'. Could you post the top 20 lines or so of your Boinc message log (the bit which says which venue each project is using).

Once you have seen the venue for the host, make sure that the venue on the website also has \'HadAM3\' excluded.

Just checked the venues here at climateprediction and all are home (computer/preferences).

OK. It really is a confusing message if one has excluded HADAM3, and the server still talks about it.

Thanks for that. In that case, could you try this?

Your account / climateprediction.net preferences / Add seperate preferences for home (at the bottom) / Then tick HadSM3 and leave the others unticked. Save.

I can remove this message from the scheduler if it would help.
But this would apply in all situations.

Would it not be possible to modify the message to \"Your computer has 1023.53MB of memory. Please ensure your preference settings exlude HADAM3 type jobs which require 1464.84MB\"

Or:

\"Your computer has 1023.53MB of memory, and a job requires 1464.84MB (only applies to HADAM3)\"

The trouble is that this is code which is maintained by Berkeley, it can be modified here but the change would disappear again when the server-side code is updated.

So the Boinc code interrogates the Science App to determine the amount of memory that may be required? That\'s too clever by half...

Nope, that\'s just a configured entry in a database table. The wording of the message, and when it appears, is the problem...

Then maybe in the climateprediction.net preferences something like this:

Prefer this type of model
Requires 1.5GB RAM minimum
[ignore messsage from server if not selected]
