Hi,

I upgraded my single core machine to 4 core swapping the mainboard and graphics card alongside the CPU swap.

For one day the PC computed the old WU and 3 new ones. Today after I updated the graphics driver only one WU keeps running and the other 3 are staying in \"Waiting to run\" state.

Preferences are set to use 8 CPUs on a multicore machine.

Anyone experience similar stuff?

Cheers

Peter

I assume you are talking about this host. The host details show one CPU even though the description is for a quad core chip. Check that your OS is registering all of the cores, a reinstall of the OS is often required when changing to multi-core chips.

Also check your BOINC directory for a cc_config.xml file, if it exsists make sure there are no tags for \"NCPU\".

Additionally to the above, you may also need to update your motherboard\'s BIOS before the additional cores can be used.

Linux is not Windows(tm), you never need to reinstall the entire OS for a hardware change. (except you change the µarch)

The AMD Phenom is a very new CPU so I\'m not sure what support it has yet (Bios / Drivers / OS). First one I\'ve encountered on the project so far.

What motherboard do you have? What is the bios version? What was the original CPU and motherboard?

Is hostID 813317 the same system, or a different system? That host\'s computer details page shows four cores.

It looks like the problem has been resolved, judging from his computer list. The Linux identifier has changed (-386 to -generic), so presumably that implies both a change of microarchitecture and an O/S reinstall. Be handy if he could post to say how it was resolved.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I actually reinstalled the machine. Likely some fidgeting with the scheudling mechanisms would have also done, but that way was easier.

I have an Asus M3A AM2+ Mainboard with newest Bios ( End of October but none newer in sigth yet ) and a X1300 Graphics card.

So nothing really fancy.

Before, the machine had an Abit NF7-S2G Socket A mainboard with a NVidia 5200 graphics card, an Athlon XP 2700+ CPU and dual channel DDR-RAM.

Right now I am up from 142 Watt consumtion to 175 Watt, but that includes the switch from the 5200 to the x1300, the latter seems to draw some 28 to 32 Watt of power compared to an on-board Graphics card.

Still have to enable 3D acceleration. The fidgeting with the driver was the root cause for the problem in the first place.

Cheers

I have the same card Radeon X1300 but my 2D performance is horrible. 3D is surprisingly good though, running glxgears. Have you experienced poor 2D performance (e.g., slow windows, delays, etc.)?

Jumping into the middle here, I have an X1300 in one of my boxes. No issues.

If Windoze is also installed on the machine, have you run the glview test, and installed the latest driver? (Unfortunately, Linux drivers aren\'t always up to snuff, but I haven\'t had graphics issues in either Windoze or openSuSE on that box. [Edit: I don\'t play games, though.])
