Hello,
I was curious if any know. Each project has a main application that was loaded at very start of the project when you join up. The applications in the task window has the version numbers at the end of names. Well, question is: When a project releases a new application to replace or update the old, will a new application auto load up? Or will I have to go to main website to see a new application is being used. Shut down the old and reload a new?
Or will a new one just upload and replace with new tasks being uploaded???
Many thanks,
God bless you all.

It\'s automatic.
The application version required by a model is built in to the dataset.
It is, in fact possible to be running 2 or 3 models of the same type, but all using different app versions, if the computer is taking a very long time to process each model.

On CPDN we always continue our models until they finish (or crash!) and the server always accepts them. The new model we then get is always the newest version.

But you can select the type of model you receive. The selection is in your project preferences.

Whoops! I should have noted the automatic update function. On 9 January I downloaded from BOINC a new version (v.5.10.30) and uninstalled the old and installed the new. Everything appears to be working -except that my credits are no longer being recorded (some 95 hours on each of two units since 9 January). What do I do ? Reinstall v.5.10.13 ?

Hi, Mike.

Welcome to the message boards.

Updating the BOINC version might have caused a duplicate computer record to be created (see here, where there are now two identical entries). Did you mean 9 February for the upgrade?

Assuming that these two entries actually correspond to a single computer, the solution is to \'merge\' the computers: go to the computer summary page (i.e. here) and follow the merge instructions at the bottom of the page.

If the merge is successful, the various credit functions will align themselves again eventually.

Iain

It looks almost as if the model data is set to \'readonly\'. Has Boinc been copied to and from a CD-R or something similar? If so, then the file properties might need to be altered to allow them to be written (right-click on the boinc folder within c:\\program files\\, untick \'read-only\', then say yes when it asks whether to apply the changes to all subfolders).

Many thanks for the comments. Yes, I did mean 9 February ! Apologies for error. I have (I think) carried out the merge suggested. This has reduced to one, but the failure to record continues- since 9 Feb there is a straight horizontal line on my User Total graph, despite the now 100 plus hours of CPU time recorded on each of the two current work units. I downloaded the updated BOINC direct from the BOINC site, not from a CD, so the \"read only\" suggestion is not applicable to this case. Would it be best to use the \"reset project\" function ? This apparently deletes current files ,etc, and gets new tasks. Would doing this clear the decks, as it were ?

You are also right to notice the run of \"peculiar errors\". These culminated in the logical drive on which BOINC is situated being unreadable due to a corrupted master file. On the 9th I corrected this by installing a backup of the drive using Acronis and all appears well. In addition, I suspected that the problem had something to do with my power options, where I had the computer going to sleep after a set period. I suspect (cant be sure !) that the sleep function in Vista can lead to instabilities - as it did in XP. At all events, all appears well, apart from the current problem ! Any further suggestions welcome. Mike

\"Reset Project\" does, in fact, wipe the slate clean. It\'s a \"last ditch\" measure.

If you have indication that Trickles are successfully received by the Server, the Merge might allow display to update. That requires waiting until after the daily Stats Run and stats sites are updated. If it isn\'t sorted in a couple days, we can take another look at it.

Possibly there may be file ownership issues because of the restore. Has anyone had experience of this?
