Hi,

Hoping to get some advice here on this ...... I\'m just a little leery of copying the BOINC folders, as I will probably corrupt something !

* Old PC
Running 32-bit XP, has 9 projects but is just running CPDN at the moment (maybe 1/3 through)

* New PC
Same hardware as above, but has 64-bit Vista on a seperate hard drive that I multi-boot. Just 2 projects here, neither CPDN, can run them out before transfer (seeing some NICE timings on the other projects under 64-bit)

So ...... how should I go about transferring the CPDN session to the new system ? Do I need to re-register under Vista before ? Or would copying the relevant Projects dir work ?

Mike

Have a look at these help files, in particular README - Running the Model, last section.

Keep in mind that there are NO 64 bit applications here, and the server software to send 32 bit apps to 64 bit BOINC isn\'t installed yet, so only parts of the climate model\'s data will get returned.
The cure is to use 32 bit BOINC.

Over on the boinc_dev forum I set out click-by-click instructions and John Keck added a step I forgot. So here\'s a link just in case you need more detail.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=2030

Just make sure you move the entire contents of the boinc folder. Don\'t even think about picking out just the cpdn parts to move across. Though there\'d be no harm in first resetting projects you\'re not currently running on the old computer, which would reduce the size of the boinc folder to be moved.

But as your new computer is already running two projects, I think you\'ll first have to complete those non-cpdn workunits and set the 2 projects to No new work. You\'ll then have to delete the entire contents of the new computer\'s boinc folder so you have an empty boinc folder ready to receive the package from the old computer. After the move you may need to reattach the new computer to the two non-boinc projects (if you still want to crunch for them).

Don\'t delete anything from the new computer\'s recycle bin until everything is moved and up and running the way you want.

If after the move you find that your cpdn model/s run considerably faster on the new computer than on the old one, please let us know. In this case you\'d need to take an additional precaution some time after the move.
