I completed two jobs that were successfully sent in. However, the reports during the, \"Ready to Report\" phase were never sent. I still have them on my machine. If I can\'t get them sent; will I loose my credit on the work units sent?

The reporting of the completion of a model happens a few hours after the final upload of data. Unless network activity is suspended on your PC (or you\'re not regularly connected to the Internet), then this normally happens automatically.

If it is a long time (i.e. days) since the models completed, then pressing the \'Update\' button on the \'Projects\' tab of BOINC Manager will provoke some action.

It would also help if you could identify which models have completed, since none of the models accessible from your account seem to be anywhere near completion.

Are there any unusual or red-coloured messages in the \'Messages\' tab of BOINC manager? If so, paste a few of them here ...

1. The network activity was NOT suspended on my PC and I am ALWAYS connected to the Internet,

2. For weeks since the models were completed, I made daily repeated attempts to send these reports by pressing the, “Update” button on the ‘Projects’ tab. The only ‘action’ I have been able to provoke is a reply deferring me another 24 hours.

3. Models in question are: hadcm3inct_dbl_1920_160_45867837_1 and hadsm3fub_0006_05893194_7

4. There are NO “unusual or red-coloured messages in the \'Messages\' tab of BOINC manager.

5. Again, my concern is in loosing credit on these two models.

The two models are:

hadcm3inct_clbl_1920_160_45867837_1 and hadsm3fub_0006_005893194_7

The first model is a \'coupled\' model, with 160 trickles to be submitted, of which eight have so far been done; the second model is a \'slab\' model, with 72 trickles to be submitted in three phases, of which five have so far been reported. So both models have a considerable way to go before successful completion.

However, completion can be reported in BOINC Manager if the models have crashed, but nothing is yet apparent on the results pages, which both say \'In progress\'.

You have been credited with the correct amounts for the work completed so far: 8 * 259.2 for the coupled model and 5 * 94.5175 for the slab model.

So, the questions are:

1. What makes you think the models are complete?

2. Are the models present in the Tasks tab of BOINC manager?

If they have indeed crashed, but there is some sort of networking problem, then the best thing to do is to restore them from a back-up, if you have one, and resume as before.

I assume that the models have been completed since they both reached 100%
There are no models in the Tasks except for the two that say, \"Ready to Report\"
I don\'t know anything about backups since I don\'t see a backup option button.

Unless you create another Account and start running models on that, which is what some people do for some reason. Accounts can\'t be merged.

100% complete is there because BOINC will think that they\'re complete if it loses contact with them for a certain period of time.

If the tasks say Ready to Report, then that\'s it for those models, regsardless of why it says it. But in this case, it sounds as though they\'ve both crashed.

BOINC has to be stopped and exited from before a backup is made. This is because BOINC keeps some files locked while it\'s still running.
There are several methods for making a backup, as per the README file in my sig at the bottom of this post.

The only problem now, is why your manager can\'t contact the server to send the Report message.
It should also have asked for more work by now.

Try this:
1) In the manager\'s menu, click on Exit.
2) Re-boot the computer.
3) In the Messages tab, click the \"Copy all messages\" button.
4) Post here again, and paste the messages into your post.

This will give us something to work with.

Just for future reference, all messages are archived into 2 files, which are in the BOINC folder:
stdoutdae.txt, which contains ALL messages
stderrdae.txt, which contains only the error messages

Does this mean that if John has clicked No new work for cpdn in the Projects tab, the Update button will have no effect and the results won\'t be reported?

The crashed models that have failed to report are #1 and #4 on the list. Both last trickled on 3 July so my guess is that they both crashed soon after that. The first 4 models John received crashed with a 107 error code, usually graphics-related.

That\'s the \'batching\' function of BOINC. (Intended to save on server time.)

Here, the only effect of No new work/tasks should be just that. The only side effect is to not Report, which can be overcome by clicking Update, which has been done.

John has also said that update requests are being deferred. Does that suggest an unresolved network problem? Network activity is on, but neither the model error nor completion state has been reported.

The slab model might plausibly have completed properly, but there\'s no chance of the coupled model finishing.

As regards mo\'s reference to the APS behaviour, John is using BOINC 5.10, which suggests that a manual update is required (as Les says) - but he\'s done that and still no joy.

Yes, it does look like a network problem to me.
He\'s running oodles of projects, so I\'m wondering if he has problems with them as well.
I\'m hoping that the messages will give us a clue.

It\'s NOT possible to lose credit already given to you.
Unless you create another Account and start running models on that, which is what some people do for some reason. Accounts can\'t be merged.

100% complete is there because BOINC will think that they\'re complete if it loses contact with them for a certain period of time.

If the tasks say Ready to Report, then that\'s it for those models, regsardless of why it says it. But in this case, it sounds as though they\'ve both crashed.

BOINC has to be stopped and exited from before a backup is made. This is because BOINC keeps some files locked while it\'s still running.
There are several methods for making a backup, as per the README file in my sig at the bottom of this post.

The only problem now, is why your manager can\'t contact the server to send the Report message.
It should also have asked for more work by now.

Try this:
1) In the manager\'s menu, click on Exit.
2) Re-boot the computer.
3) In the Messages tab, click the \"Copy all messages\" button.
4) Post here again, and paste the messages into your post.

This will give us something to work with.

Just for future reference, all messages are archived into 2 files, which are in the BOINC folder:
stdoutdae.txt, which contains ALL messages
stderrdae.txt, which contains only the error messages

Starting BOINC client version 5.10.18 for windows_x86_64

You\'re running a 64 bit version of BOINC.
This project doesn\'t have 64 bit applications, and the server software hasn\'t yet been updated to the new version, which will send 32bit apps when a 64bit client requests 64bit apps.

There is no solid information on when the server upgrade will occur.
In the meantime, you CAN\'T return certain parts of a model. This problem has been posted about numerous times on these boards, along with the cure.
I can\'t remember what it is, so you\'ll have to wait for someone else to post it, or you can use the search facility to look for the previous messages about it.

Backups: Here

I see that CPDN isn\'t the only project on his list with the problem.

Ywo possible cures:

one is to use Boinc 5.10.x 32-bit.

* If you\'re running any projects which do have genuine 64-bit workunits then set \'no more work\' against them until they\'ve run out,
* Take a backup of your boinc installation (see the READMEs for instructions).
* install the 32-bit version (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php),
* report the work from the various projects which are stuck, and then

* (optional) reinstall the 64-bit version

The projects which haven\'t been updated for the 64-bit version won\'t give you any more work. Note that in most cases, \'64-bit work\' is actually normal 32-bit work. There are few projects which actually need or use 64-bit instruction sets.

The second cure is to wait for 64-bit support to be installed here. But since the uploads are probably on the verge of timing out, I wouldn\'t recommend that.
