...I then updated the project to inform the server, after which the model disappeared from the task list. Apparently no model data were submitted. In the BOINC folder the model data seems to be still there - so should I mail the contents of the folder (zipped) to some mail address? Or are those files uninteresting, since the model hasn\'t even completed phase 1? The model folder is removed on successful completion but not on a failure. It won\'t contain a viable model and can be deleted. However, if you have a backup of the model then you can restore that and see whether the model can get past the point at which it previously crashed (though I see you\'re running other projects, which complicates the backup/restore process). The model crashed with the same \'access denied\' message as in the earlier posts, so checking out the RAM is a very sensible idea. Iain |

I do have a backup, and I\'ll restore it and run it again from that point as soon as my other projects have finished (have set them not to download any new work). In the meantime I\'ve had another crash (not a \"fortran error\") while working with another software which unexpectedly (I made a mistake) sucked over a gigabyte of memory. So I set all projects to stop downloading new work until I figure out what\'s going on - maybe indeed a RAM failure. |

I have just started encountering this Visual Fortran run-time severe error (38) during write. I am running this model on a Dell W2K SP-4 system. There are no related or unrelated errors in the System or Application Event Logs. It doesn\'t seem to affect the number crunching as this continues at 90% CPU or higher. It may be connected to the trickle-up, although that appears to be successful. If I watch the Messages page, I get a trickle-up reported just after the error message appears. It may also be connected to the Boinc Manager, as I seem to get them a second or two after switching focus away from the open Manager such as to write this. One other symptom is that the Manager doesn\'t increment the run-time on the Tasks page while the error message box is open. I get errors for a few seconds after I close the Manager window. The reported file ...hadsm3fub_0321_005902063\\tmp\\pipe_dummy does exist but is 0-length. I\'ve tried deleting it but I get a sharing violation (surprise). I have been running climate models on this PC for over a year but have recently upgraded to the latest version of Boinc (5.10.20). |

Is there anything which changed on your PC a week ago? (i.e., MS updates, antivirus updates, etc)? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Not a thing. Same AV, my AV updates daily, using the same OS XP Pro SP2 another thing, not sure if this makes any difference but my Seti and CP work done was keeping pace with each other, now CP is falling way behind almost half of Seti now. Thanks Rick |

I am also getting this error. I have posted here: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=4678 But still unresolved. It doesn\'t look to be a RAM problem, and I\'m running the latest stable BOINC Manager. |

Please reply I keep getting this error on CPDN only, E@H, Preditor run without a hitch. Hardware tests ok, prvious models ran fine, but this dummy has me stumped. dp I\'m out of ideas. Last one: do you check with Windows Task Manager to make sure that you don\'t have an orphan \"transum\" running? if it is, re-booting will remove it. (There should only be one \"trans\", and one \"transum\" per model.) The other projects probably don\'t have the error because their programs aren\'t written in Fortran. (C++, perhaps?) Add me to the list of people getting repeated VisFortran computational errors (out put files not found). I\'ve backed out all other applications except BOINC, Firewall, and Virus Protection. All of these programs have been running forever, so they\'re not the problem. I updated from 5.10.13 to 5.10.20, no difference. I\'m running on XP with 1GB memory, but with only 1 hadsm program (1 processor), so should be more than adequate. Re-boot or not, programs still crash repeatedly. It\'s strange that so many people are having problems simultaneously. I\'ll bet many people just gave up. I almost did; to devote my computer to SETI and Rosetta and forget this hassle. |

It happened to me too: I was running a Virtual PC session, and... I had the virtual fortran error. My results were at about 40%... it seems I\'ve lost everything... Is there a way to recover them? :-( Bye Alberto |

... Yes, if you happen to have taken a backup (instructions in the README links in my signature). I\'d recommend reading all the READMEs. The servers will already have been sent some data as the model ran (depending on the type of model). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

The fortran-runtime error appears on my system too after one data unit - which finished about 28% finished because of mathematical error - some days ago. for the last 5 days boinc downloade new units, each one runs without failure for about one and a half cpu-hour. after fortran-error appears first in one unit the only possibilty for me was to cancel the project, cancel this unit and restart the project. but the next unit will also run for about 90 minutes cpu-time. so my decision was to cancel climateprediction.net totally and let my computer only work for seti. Sorry. I hope this fortran error will be fixed ASAP, i´ll share my computer (no other problems with this machine) for climateprediction.net again. |

Hi, Sadly the reason the fortran error is appearing is something unknown on your PC which is clashing with the climate model. I\'d suggest going through the \'crashes and other problems\' link to see if there is any software mentioned on that which you\'ve got on your PC. In particular: What antivirus software do you have? What other software runs on the PC? Was anything running at the time the errors appeared? Which operating system do you have? Have you run the Prime95 torture test for 24 hours? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

It\'ll be something on your PC which is clashing with the climate model... what sort of stuff do you run on it? Which antivirus? The recent models list is here: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=651736 There seem to be two different ways models on your PC are crashing: Sorry, too many model crashes! :-( Here is another: CPDN process is not running, exiting, bRetVal = 1, checkPID=0, selfPID=3592, iMonCtr=1 Do you run anything which uses 100% of the CPU time for an extended period (other than Boinc?), for example, games or video compression software? If so, it might be an idea to right-click on the boinc icon and \'exit\' before doing that. There could be a number of things which are causing the problem, so I\'d suggest reading through the \'README - crashes and other problems\' (you can find the link in my signature).
