Message 28119 - Posted: 25 Apr 2007, 22:54:02 UTC

I am getting this error message:

4/25/2007 6:44:31 PM|climateprediction.net|[error] Error on file upload: can\'t write file /home/boinc/data/hadcm3ohe_1ccq_05711004_1_4.zip: No space left on device
4/25/2007 6:44:31 PM|climateprediction.net|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of hadcm3ohe_1ccq_05711004_1_4.zip: transient upload error

I have 59G of free space and Boic is using only 803MB.

Can anyone give me some directions? Thanks

I tried to post here with my problem but was classed as spam and deleted.
I then had to give a \'+\' to the post prior to this one as it was filtered with a \'-1\' so I could read it.
Where this post referred me to was also filtered (odd seeing it is by a moderator) and I had to give a \'+\' on that one as well.

At least I now know why I can\'t upload, but why am I classed as spam?

Hold on, the rating code is something different from the anti-spam code. They don\'t work together.

The anti-spam code is checked through an external server. Your whole post is checked on words it deems spam.

The rating is something you set yourself. Check your forum preferences and see what the settings are for Filtering. Default is -25 and 5. Perhaps that you put them to -1 and 1...

Save changes to the site and you\'ll see all posts with a -1 or lower rating again. Let\'s then hope that the person or persons doing the rating get a life. ;-)

(P.S: I have mine set to -1001 and 1000... that way I see all posts in a normal way.)

Thanks Jord, I didn\'t realise that, have changed from 0 to -25 and 0 to 10.

Just thought I\'d mention that the same sort of thing seems to be happening with the BBC server at present - no data being uploaded. The very strange thing is that trickles and credits seem to get registered though!

I\'ve suspended network activity on both my BBC and CPDN models, hope someone will let us know when it\'s all working again!

The trickles go to a \'trickle server\', and are small, whereas the 10 year zip files go to the \'upload server\', and are bigger. (5 Megs? I forget now.)
It\'s the latter that is having problems, and will be fixed be a bigger, soon-to-arrive, raid system.

Credits are allocated on the arrival of trickles.

Thank you Les - I hope this isn\'t going to cause problems for Wednesday, one of our team who trickles only rarely but sent a 20-year mega-trickle this morning!

As far as I know, the BBC servers are OK, especially now that there are a lot less people uploading data. But Milo may be using the HDs on it to store some cpdn data. I\'m not sure what the system is, but he may be pouring it into buckets and putting them in the broom cupboard, and under the kitchen sink.

If Wednesday\'s Message tab doesn\'t say anything about \'temporary failed upload ....\' etc, then it should be OK.

The real problem is if a person has the problem and let\'s it go for days before saying something here, so that we can tell Milo.
After 14 days of attempting to upload a zip file, BOINC will give up and delete it.
This has already happened to at least one person.

Hi
All my projects on Boinc Stats have gone back between 2 - 3 weeks.
Still ok on the Synergy stat site.
Could this also be tied in somehow to the movement of data on the CPDN servers
Or maybe time travel!
Hey Ho keeps life intresting.

Chris,

Willy at BOINCstats is installing a new server, and as best I understand, some of his tables are being moved at different times, so results and totals will be out of sync there for a bit longer...

Thank you for making me laugh about it, Les!

I don\'t have any way of communicating with Wednesday but I\'ve asked Ian, our team leader, if he can e-mail him/her with an alert to the problem, first noticed by Iain Inglis late last night. Here are the latest messages from one of my BBC models, much the same as in CPDN:

Hi Disavowed, Conan and everybody else

There\'s now a News and Announcements thread at the top of this Number crunching section. You\'ll see that the server problem is mentioned there. It will do no harm at all just to suspend boinc network activity and let these 10-year zip files wait a day or two to upload. This means your trickles will also have to wait.

The credits always sort themselves out eventually.

We\'ve had a problem recently with somebody minussing loads of posts on this forum. I have my filter set to 1 so I can see where this has happened and cancel it with a plus rating. Not just mods\' posts, but posts by longstanding helpers whose good temper and manners are legendary, plus posts by newbies who\'ve never offended a soul. Where you see unjustified minus ratings, please help by cancelling them out. If the problem continues, we\'ll be asking Oxford to take away the + and - buttons.

Conan, I don\'t want you to discuss again on this forum the contents of your post that was classified by the server as spam. Just in case the server thinks you\'re a repeat offender and bans you! This anti=spam software add-on is being tried out and you\'re obviously a false positive. To tell the mods about what you said, would you mind please registering on the cpdn php forum that you get to through my signature. Separate registration required, please use the same name, or if it\'s used up, Conan 1 for example so we recognise you. As soon as we see you registered there, one of us will be able to send you a private message. I know this is a hassle, but thanks in advance.

Yes I had seen your announcement, Mo, and in fact linked to it in an earlier post in this thread. I\'m just trying to point out that there\'s a similar problem in BBC and hoping that it won\'t adversely affect Wednesday, who made one of his/her very rare mega-trickles early this morning.

Since there had been no announcement in the BBC forum, I posted something there about the problem earlier today.

Best regards, M

Presumably, someone who has just finished a BBC model shouldn\'t detach until the last upload is made (does \'reporting\' happen after that?). I know the advice is that there is no need to detach, but some tidy-minded people might do this while leaving the project or transferring to CPDN.

Just a thought.

Detaching from BBC before joining CPDN would also mean that the CPID\'s don\'t synchronise (stopping external stats sites working, and also the bit on the account page).

Thyme Lawn suggested some ideas about how to get a failed upload to be resent, so I\'m going to experiment and see if I can write a programme to do this. Obviously it wouldn\'t work if Boinc has already deleted it!

Not sure how related it is, but I tried to post a Boinc message log onto the /TRAC reporting system, and it blocked it due to the project URLs contained in the log ... someone else tried to post some links to Google\'s april first pages in the Boinc \'The Lounge\' board, and those links got mangled.

Isn\'t that due to the way Trac handles URLs? Check TracWiki Formatting->Links. Any complaints about Trac, give DA a call. ;-)
Or email me the log and I\'ll try it. Perhaps that my moderator skills there do allow me to post links without hoopla.

I saw that, but it\'s unrelated. At the time that was posted, the code wasn\'t in yet. So it\'s probably something to do with how the link was copied, or more like, where from. Some boards shorten the links like that.

I got the log into Trac in the end, by replacing all the / symbols in the project URLs with *\'s instead. Trac was autorecognising the links as links (presumably from the http:// prefix), and didn\'t require the usual wikimedia \'[\' and \']\' brackets surrounding it.

There were six project urls at the top of the log, 3 links to result files in the body of my message, and the main text of the log also contained a number of links to the seasonal project server. So maybe 12-18 URLs in total, all to various Boinc project servers.

Any link based antispam system should have a whitelist that you can configure with \'safe\' links, perhaps all the various project servers could be added to that whitelist. Not being able to post Boinc logs without having to edit it first is a bit of a drawback to a Boinc bug tracking system! :-)

I can always use /Trac to add a bug report about /Trac :-)
