Trickle uploads were working until a few days ago. Do I have a problem with my proxy perhaps?

Hi,

Until recently I ran the BBC climate models and have now downloaded the Boinc software to run climateprediction. The problem appears to be each time the model attempts to trickle it crashes with the following message:

Output file hadcm3pbb_alz_05769110_1_1.zip for task hadcm3pbb_alz_05769110_1 absent

This gets repeated several times and finishes as:

Reason: Unrecoverable error for result hadcm3pbb_alz_05769110_1 (<file_xfer_error> <file_name hadcm3pbb_alz_05769110_1_1.zip</file_name> <error_code>-161</error_code></file_xfer_error><

I have tried re-downloading the software to run a repair but the end result each day is a crashed model.

Should I zap everything on th computer and try downloading the software again or is there another solution? So far I have been running models for several days now and not one trickle has succeeded.

One of your 3 crashed models did trickle once before crashing, so trickles aren\'t the problem:

I think the problem is occurring when you turn the computer off. You MUST exit from boinc first and wait for the icon to disappear from the system tray before starting the computer shut-down process. But there are also other precautions one needs to take to keep these models safe. Go to the README link in my signature. In the Running the Model README, look at the top tips. And in the README about avoiding model crashes, go to item #5 by Mike. He explains how to avoid all the common causes of model crashes including crashes with the error codes you\'ve had.

In the same Crashes README, item #1 by Les explains how to back your boinc folder up so that if you do have another disaster, you can restore the backup and continue crunching the same model.

By the way, you seem to have two models listed as in progress. Your computer has only one core so you only need one model. I would highlight and abort the model that\'s made least progress. Stop unwanted models downloading by clicking once only the No new work/tasks button in your boinc manager. The day you need a new model, you\'ll need to click it again.

Mo, I\'m somewhat concerned about Dave because it looks like he continues to try to get a model up and running but they all keep crashing - do you think it would help if he re-installed BOINC? Maybe he got one of the transitional versions that gave other people problems?
