I\'m running a climate_prediction model in my computer, but I\'m moving to another computer next week.
I\'m not sure what should I do to keep running this model in the other computer.
Should I copy and paste the BOINC folder and installing/reparing/update BOINC in the other computer?

Thanks a lot!

Yes.

Uninstall BOINC.
Copy BOINC folder from old, paste to new.
Install new BOINC.
(This gets around registry problems.)

If you copy via a cd/dvd, then either zip everything first, or make sure that read/write permissions are restored to all folders / files after the paste.

I have to do the same thing this week i.e. move from one Win2k PC to another. Just to be sure I understand, are you saying:-
1 - Uninstall BOINC on the PC to be retired.
2 - Copy the whole BOINC folder to the new PC.
3 - Install BOINC on the new PC.
4 - Enable R/W permissions for BOINC & its sub-directoriess.

Have I got his right ?

BOINC is already installed on the new PC, do I have to uninstall it before step 3?

Before step 2, you mean? ;-)
No, you don\'t need to uninstall BOINC on the new PC. Just make sure it isn\'t running when you copy over the directory and sub-directories.

Step 4 is a bit of a thinker though.
Did you mean, uncheck all read-only attributes if you put BOINC on a CD and copied it onto the new machine from there? For then, the answer is yes.

If the new computer is much faster than the old one and the model has spent quite a high proportion of its life on the old computer, it\'s possible that before it finishes it will crash with the message \'Max CPU time exceeded\'. It\'s therefore important to make regular backups of the complete contents of the boinc folder on the new computer (with boinc exited). If you do have a model crash with this message, post back and one of us will tell you what to do to continue with the same model.

The R/W permissions issue can be avoided by zipping the boinc folder on the old machine, copy to CD-RW, thence to new machine and unzipping on the new machine.
