It\'s very bad. You set charset=iso-8859-1 and write with charset=utf-8. I see

I\'ve read about this type of problem before.
As I recall, it\'s to do with the search order of the languages in your browser.
You need to put \"charset=utf-8\" first. But I don\'t know where to look, or how to alter it.

Had a look at my Netscape menu.
Under \"View\", there is \"Character Coding\".
In the drop down menu, there is \"Customise\", with just the one set.
Perhaps there\'s a similar option in yours, and you have several sets in \"Active Character Coding\".

Click View->Charset->Utf-8 on each page? It\'s inconvenient in use.

No.
Change the setting in your browser so that it\'s permanent.

Yes, the problem because of the web server setting of charset that is set to \"iso-8859-1\" but all translated BOINC-Web pages encoded in UTF-8. It\'s a requirement for BOINC-based projects that want to be an international projects.

The browsers incorrectly selects charset iso-8859-1 instead of UTF-8 because it pointed out by the server.

This problem was discussed in boinc_dev and boinc_projects mailing lists if I remember correctly.

Would someone who is experiencing this problem mind letting me know what OS and browser versions they are using, and also exactly which URLs it affects, please?
Thanks.

Perhaps also the following may be useful:
* Which Encodings / Charsets are selected in the browser options
* The order they are listed in (if relevant)
* The languages selected
* The order they are listed in

Hello,

I have WinXP SP2 Pro, MS IE 6.0 SP2.

Affected URLs I saw:

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/apps.php
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/home.php
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_index.php

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/top_users.php
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/top_teams.php

Maybe somewhere else.

I have autoselect option enabled for Encoding (View\\ Encoding\\ Auto-Select).

There are also another options in this menu:
Cyrillic(Windows);
Western European (ISO) <- selected by IE;
\"More\" submenu with another encodings (Arabic, Baltic, UTF-8, etc)

If I select UTF-8 from menu the current page is shown correctly but when I go to another page it reselects ISO again for that page.

I have Russian language selected for CPDN Website.

Language preference:
English [en-us]
Russian [ru]

Can you ask Janus or S@H admins about server encoding settings? Their websites and many other BOINC projects has no such problem.

Thanks for the information. Now that I know which pages are playing up (not the ones I thought you meant, hence earlier confusion) I have adjusted the configs and it should be working.

I'm not an employee of CPDN.
