I am running Windows XP-home edition SP 2 with Webroot\'s SpySweeper as well as Norton Antivirus 2006.

Recently I received a message from Spy Sweeper that a keylogger may be on my system. The computer has be bogging down for a few days, and when things like webpages are open, they will become temporarily inactive for a few seconds. I figured this might be indicative that Spy Sweeper was correct and have begun to back up every valuable piece of info on the computer to format and reinstall since nothing seems to be ridding the computer of the problem.

This morning Spy Sweeper identified hadcm3trans_5.08_windows_intelx86.exe as a possible keylogger. Could this be the source of my problems? If so, what can I do to prevent it from causing problems in the future.

I intend to go ahead with the backing up and formatting anyhow, its probably time to do so anyway.

I doubt it very much, it sounds like a \'false positive\' to me. Try a different antispyware program to see if you get the same issue (spybot is very good).

I run Spybot and it has never identified any boinc tasks as any kind of malware so it definatley sounds like a false positive.

Same here. I\'ve used Spybot for a long time with no issues with it and BOINC.

But the symptoms you mention could either be a spy or keylogger. The only thing that may cause sluggishness from BOINC is if you don\'t have a very fast machine and have BOINC set to \"run always\". Mine are always set that way and I have seen no real effect since going over 800MHz on the processor speed. But processor intensive programs will feel it (like a large graphics program like Photoshop CE on a large file).
